![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hoods without opening? Hello, What are people using for hoods to closely match the FFM to eliminate or minimize skin exposure in cold water? Does anyone know where I might be able to purchase a cold-weather hood that doesn't have face cut-out or a face area in thin rubber? I'd like to custom trim a hood to match my M48 FFM so the mask can go on top of the hood... or at least near the M48's perimeter. -p |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Hoods without opening? There was a guy who sold just what you are looking for on ebay for some years. They went for about $70.00 but Paypal may have put a stop to them as a blank hood was dangerous ... no breathing holes. Thanks !! we of course need to be protected like this!. I can not remember they guys user name but if you did a search with ebay on sold items you might be able to find him. He ran a dive shop as I recall. Bill

Hello, We find the Deep Sea Zipper Dry Hood to be the most flexible for custom fit What are people using for hoods to closely match the FFM to eliminate or minimize skin exposure in cold water? I'd like to custom trim a hood to match my M48 FFM so the mask can go on top of the hood... or at least near the M48's perimeter. -p It has about 2.5 inches of "skin" in neoprene around the face. The hood has vent holes in the top for gas escape. The short neck fits perfectly over most neck seals. I use it with regular face masks and ffms without issue. For the SM48 you want the mask to seal to the face and the hood to go right next to it. The only hood that would work for the mask to go ontop of would be a latex hood like on the Viking suits. Cheers JDS

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Hoods without opening? I have done a lot of FFM dives using a scubapro FFM and an AGA. I've never needed anything other than a standard hood. If you go with the sex mask thing the barrier is so thin that the water willl not touch the skin, but the cold will. I used one once and it felt like my face was colder than without...may have something to do with blood flow. So here is what I have done; Method 1) Put on the mask and then pull the hood over the mask straps and but it up closely to the frame of the mask. If you have to go to a stage for any reason you will need to completely remove the hood and risk going into shock from freezing cold water. Method 2) This is the way I prefer to do it ....putthe hood on, then the mask, and usually the face seal will slip right up under your hood , and there's no issue with swapping your mask. If cold is a concern, just have a towl readily available so i can cover my head in it when I surface. I do this because one time I took my hood off and the water on my face and skin froze almost immediatly. ( it was about 10 digrees F with a 20mph wind ) You can go to Lee's Summit Underwater Recovery to see how we would wear the aga with a hood all year round. Later SS

The one I am using presently with my drysuit has a couple of inches of 'skin' around the face opening which seals better than my actual face!
