![]() | Re: CDBA / DSSCCD full face mask questions Thanks for all the info! it's been an interesting read - especially the comments about the nose clip - when i used the mask i had (to a maximum depth of about 35m) i managed to get by without using a nose clip - apart from on one dive, where i had ear clearing problems so had to swap it for my normal mask (carried in my stab for such emergencies). One thing that hadn't occured to me was filling the sealing skirt should be filled with water, i'd merely inflated it with air. - didn't have any problems with it filled with air, although i did also have problems with the original spider that the mask came with, - basicly perished - and the mask itself did have some surface detoriation on it as well, but glueing it inside a wetsuit hood with a zip down the back did the trick nicely. Andre, is the mask something you'd be willing to part with? Thanks for all the comments and advice! |

Ebay and the like may come up with some (but never from us). However as HSM Enginnering proberbly has more diving kit than a few navies I can name we are always loosing the odd scrap box when we accidentally leave it outside, or when we have the skip rifled. The scrap masks shown in the photo have been regected not servicable and will be "scrapped" in the next few weeks, if you get my drift. So as long as we understand each other that they will never be put up on Ebay or I get a bollocking. iain |

Oh yes not that, The Aquarius set I remember that too, You cant forget the small inverted twin set, took over from the intigrated SABA swimmers air breathing apperatus. It had a nasty small blue plastic cylinder butterfly knob on the top of the piller valves covered with two almighty rubber handwheels, When you needed to equalize you could hear the crunching sound as the knod from the full cylinder disintigrated in your hand, used up to 50msw. two types of nose clips .. one black (magnetic) the other yellow non magnetic.. The black one softer and kinder to ya hooter !! but no good for working on loud noise things ![]() It was made by Submarine Products in Hexham Northumberland, they also made a nice simple closed/semi closed rebreather the Oxymix or Oxymax? I worked with Ian Mayo its designer, training the Thai Navy the difference between magnetic and non magnetic. I remember the back of the class would be asleep for most of my lectures, one diver was killed when he mixed up the difference, understand he used a JW auto mine lifting bag and forgot about the delayed timer. When Submarine Products went into recievership and closed as a company the designs were bought by Divex and later became the "Shadow" |

Incidentally, although i too used to live in Loughborough (briefly) i now live many miles away up north, but i could probably arrange a courier collection for a box of scrap quite easily!.... |

You should be paid generously to pick it up and dispose of it properly... if I were you I would charge by the pound. BTW, I have a certified HAZMAT storage area under my workbench here too... Dave

![]() | Re: CDBA / DSSCCD full face mask questions Hi, Ian good reading some of your feed back i know someone that is looking at getting rid of a complete brand new cdba set if you know anyone that is looking one. Ben The Admiralty pattern (AP) mask is no longer available as a spare part. Although Avon were one of the prime contractor (including Dunlop) they were not the manufacturer. The polycarbonate face plate tooling was by Hopkins with the rubber tooling by MEL. The complete assembly was by Hopkins who supplied it to MoD. The unique features of the AP mask was its panoramic view, its water filled rubber sealing skirt and the low WOB due to its good design and bite mouthpiece within the mask surround. Agreed the nose clip was a force to be reckoned with and the rubber spider was very flimsy. As MOD now required commercial off the shelf COTS products the silicone version of this mask never was completed. You can’t get a new mask now as they are only available as complete assemblies with the rest of the diving twin set and regulator, and in a very limited quantity, as the SDDE or the CDBA closed circuit diving set. Both of which are now pretty much collectors items. Out of interest the SDDE/DCBA unit is listed in MoD list at £840.00 and the closed/semi closed 02/mix CDBA set at £8320-00 …each!!! So anyone with these units stand up. |
