![]() | Re: Wanted: Draeger NOVA Full Face Mask The reason I dont use a BOV on my Nova and prefer a side OC reg is that:- 2 1) For bailout/sanity breath I dont have to do anything more than breathe thru my nose to get instant OC gas 2) I dont have to stop breathing whilst bailing off the loop and locating my OC bail gas 2nd stages and plugging them in and turning on the gas. The ability to always breathe is a major stress reducer when bailing, or is just more pleasant when doing things like clearing hose gurgles. 3) When running semiclosed dont have to manually inject gas just have to take a breath thru the nose 4) WOB from the side mounted APEKS is FAR supperior to the BOV 2nd stages Ive used/own 5) when adding dil to loop just have to take a breath thru the nose Anyone who tells you the side reg gets in the way or is even noticeable underwater hasnt used one. I have decided to go the route of Draeger FFM rather than BOV. But I am unclear about a couple of things:- 1.) Do you have 2 second stages coming off your bottom mix bailout, one in the side P-port and the other which will replace the DSV? 2.)If I am correct in 1.) is a 3rd reg the only alternative for your buddy in OOA situation? The likelihood being that he won't have the same set-up. 3.)Do you have your shallow mix p ported also - is this the simplest solution or are switchblocks or quick connects a better (i.e. KISS) solution? 4.) For someone who does not have first hand experience of a CO2 hit(and so can't nip it in the bud) how difficult will it be to breathe through your nose with the increased rate of breathing while you make the switch? Look forward to hearing your thoughts |

I have just ordered my FFM and a Golem BOV as well. Whilst I coped with the M48 I couldn't equalise with dry gloves so no good to me. Obviously you have got the mask working well for you with the side reg and i can certainly see some advantages in doing it like that. But I worry about CO2 build up in the mask if you go to bailout. The company advises against your approach for this reason. Presumably all has been well while breathing off the reg for a short period...but have you tried it for a more prolonged period say 15mins? Any problems or a sense that CO2 was building up?1) For bailout/sanity breath I dont have to do anything more than breathe thru my nose to get instant OC gas 2) I dont have to stop breathing whilst bailing off the loop and locating my OC bail gas 2nd stages and plugging them in and turning on the gas. Also you dont want to be nose breathing when you have a CO2 hit (assuming that's the reason you have bailed). Cheers Harry |

Cheers Harry hi harry, as mentioned in another thread someplace (on diveoz forum also iirc), id use side reg nose breathing only as intermediate stage before (if needed) swapping Rebreather dsv for oc reg in main p port, for exactly the reasons you state. i should have made it clearer in my posts as a couple of people have mentioned the same potential issue. in other words i dont use side reg for oc bail - i use it to make oc bail a less stressful experience by nose breathing while swapping out dsv for oc reg, and use it to get quick sanity breath (to see in part if oc bail is needed) cheers m

![]() | Re: Wanted: Draeger NOVA Full Face Mask I am new to rebreathers and do not have one. Forgive me if the answer to my question is simple. But if you are using a BOV with the FFM doesnt that eliminate the need for removing the DSV from the P port? Or is this for switching to a staged bottle during deco? |
