Re: Norther Light Dive Report 04/08/08

The SCRUBS really know how to have fun!

I had a great time with Eric on the Northern Light. (Thanks Eric for coming down on short notice.) I'd like to come back in the near future and dive with the SCRUBS, if you'll have me. I'm making my list. So far the Hydro Atlantic, Queen of Nassau, the USS Curb, and the USS Wilkes-Barre are on it.

The Northern Light was my first deep dive with the CCR and it couldn't have been in a better place with a better group. Silent World Key Largo was easy to work with and Chris made the dive happen, even with a short list of divers. The gases that he mixed were spot on and everything was ready and happened when it was supposed to. AJ and Gary were a very good crew and they made the dive trip quick and effortless.

It's not every dive where the diving, the logistics, and the company all come together for a well spent afternoon. This was one of them.

I told my wife that I did some of my best diving on this dive and if the camera hadn't gotten flooded, she would have been able to watch the video. If the tape is salvaged I hope it doesn't prove me wrong.

Thanks fellas.

This was actually a DIY housing produced by Padipro (Scott). He makes these housings out of PVC, and they have worked great through the recreational depths. I had the camera and housing on the Hydro dive last month at 160 in the engine room, which I posted the footage from in the SCRUB forum. I had forgot to bring the light assembly on that dive, so most of the footage from inside the wreck was too dark, but the outside footage turned out pretty good. Someday, I'll drop the dough on a 'real' setup that is rated to depth.

Paul,

I had a great time! I'm sorry I didn't get to dive with you on Wednesday.

I look forward to your next visit down when we'll have to hit some more of the deeper wrecks in the Keys or maybe the Oriskany in the Gulf.

I'll look you guys up when I'm through KC in a month or so. The cervesus are on me this time!

Eric

Sometimes camera housings and S.C.R.U.B. divers have their issues, don't they? Too bad I couldn't make the dive.

I often wonder what has become of your video housing? Maybe some nice octopus has manipulated the latches and made a nice home for himself?

We'll have to plan some more nice dives down that way.

Re: Norther Light Dive Report 04/08/08

Thanks for the trip report, Eric. Sounds like you guys had a great dive.

It must have been a bad week for camcorder housings! The back of my housing popped off yesterday at the ladder as I was getting back into the boat. Unfortunately, it took on a good bit of water before I got up and my camcorder is hosed. Fortunately, Mark saw the housing back as it came off and managed to retrieve it for me. I'll take my housing to ReefPhoto for repairs, but I may be doing some eBay shopping for a new camcorder too!

Lisa,

That's awefull! I'm sorry to hear it. You have a really nice setup. Mine is just a DIY project with an inexpensive camera. I really enjoy your videos, so I hope you get back up and running with a new system soon!

Eric

Re: Norther Light Dive Report 04/08/08

Thanks Eric!

Well, thanks to the nice guys at Reef Photo, Reef Photo & Video!, The Underwater Photo Pros, I am back up and running. They made the repairs to my housing in one day and set me up with a replacement camcorder. Mark and I did a couple of (slightly) deep dives a few days later, including a very nice dive on the Clinton last Sunday, so I was very happy to have it and took lots of video! I'm hoping to have a new movie posted on my website in a few days...
