Florida in May - Buddy Needed

I have a old airline ticket that I need to book by Friday this week. So I thought why not Florida. I could get there and stay a few days to a week sometime in May or July. I could do caves in High Springs or I could do wrecks in Pompano/Key Largo. I would like to do some max 170ft and 30 min deco dives but I will take whatever I can get. Last time I was in Pompano it was a pain just finding a boat that would go out on a weekday as I seemed to be the only diver in town and they wanted a minimum of two. The key is having someone else to dive with.

Anyone need a buddy?

It's just too hard to predict what will be going on then well enough to be able to say. We usually go diving every week that the weather is good. Sometimes, I head to the caves (especially with unpredictable Winter weather). If I am around and can dive, I see no reason not to join you.

Give me a shout. I'll dive with you. I can dive in the middle of the week, and I'll be able to get enough divers to do the dives. Usually, all we need is four.

May is busy for me... June/July - sure thing...

Weekends are better for me, but weekdays with a good dive plan and enough advance notice and I'm there!!

Weekends are better for me as well, but I get an occasional Friday off as well. Let me know the dates and details and I'll try to be there.

Doug, if you have difficulty getting away from the office for a scheduled dive, just say the word and we'll be happy to pull a Red Fox/Sanford & Son chest pain episode at the dock at the departure time so you can justify the time away from the office as a medical emergency!

Excellent.

Looks like from your locations I should stay in the Pompano area and then can drive either to KL or up to cave country. Any suggestions on cheap but good hotels? Last time I stayed in Weston and the traffic to get to Ft Lauderdale was not much fun.

Any differences in diving and weather May versus July? Last time I got caught in the bug season opening rush.

May through early July is great diving.

I don't dive during the 'mad rush' of mini-season, since I don't lobster. Even if I did, I'd probably stay away from mini-season just due to the all the hype and heated action. I prefer calm, cool, and collected.

As for a hotel, well, I live in Weston. The traffic can be bad during the week if trying to make an early boat. Others may have ideas for Pompano.
