I may be mistaken, but I do not believe you are going to find anything too spectacular in the way of hotels in Pompano Beach. The one that most people who come down to dive stay at is the Sands Harbor Resort and Marina. I have not personally stayed there, but others on this site have and indicate it gets the job done, but don't expect much. The nice selling point, is that it is located directly in the marina where a couple of the dive boats dock at and it's very reasonably priced.

South Florida Hotel: Sands Harbor Resort and Marina: Pompano Beach Intracoastal Waterfront Hotel

Other than that one, you may want to take a look at the Ocean Sands Resort and Spa. Again, I've never stayed there, but it is within somewhat reasonably close proximity to the dive boat activity and it does look nicer than the Sands Harbor, if you are looking for something a bit nicer.

Ocean Sands Resort & Spa - Resort Amenities

Other than those two, lets see if someone else offers any suggestions or you can contact the local Pompano Beach tech dive shop, Fill Express/Dive Rite Express/ Rebreather Express etc. (Fill Express -- Nitrox & Technical Diving Specialist Serving Greater Fort Lauderdale), they have a lot of people come from out of town to do training with them and they may be able to offer you some other hotel suggestions.

Yeah mini-season blows. If I may call up a Simpson's reference, it's the equivalent of Whacking Day, except with dumber people. Local shops who shall remain nameless will have death pools on how many divers will bite the dust in their crazed quest for lobster.

If you have enough notice - you can usually book a whole six pack and dive a nice deep wreck, far away from the bug-nuts.

Thanks everyone. Looks like I am leaning towards arrival early pm on Wed May 14th and leave late pm on Wed May 21st. Looking at the hotel reservations and will finalize everything in the next two days.

The sands is not too bad maybe a 2 1/2 to 3 star hotel. But it is close to marina it does have a bar there and it is close to the beach and not bad food close by. I think the last time I was ther it was $70 a night.

Re: Florida in May - Buddy Needed

Thanks for the hotel recommendations. I have reserved at a place in Ft Lauderdale that meets my basic needs.

I will arrive May 14th about noon. Get the rental car and head over to DRE to get tanks filled etc. I will be ready to go diving May 15th and can dive thru mid day on May 20th. I am open to drive down to Key Largo a few days. PM me if your available any time on these days and I will start to keep a list so that we can book some boats.
