Sounds like the group did some nice diving for this time of the year. I'm still bummed about having to cancel out of this one, but I certainly will not miss the next one.

Great trip report Eric!

Re: Trip Report: 01/11-13/08 S.C.R.U.B. Key Largo Wreck Dives

First and foremost I'd like to thank Eric (MEMpilot) for taking the time to put together a great trip. Everything worked out really well down to the fine details like the box lunches on the boats - all of which is no small amount of work. Also Chris and Alyson (sp?) from Silent World Dive Center for running a very professional and safe operation and Capt. AJ and Gary (on our boat at least) for making two great days of diving.

From my perspective we had plenty of room on the boats, the crews were eager to help where they could; and they really seem to want to expand their Rebreather-friendly capabilities. Of course it's always better being on a whole-boat charter of experienced divers. Everyone seemed to have a great time on our boat, new friends were made and the requisite amount of ball-breaking took place!

As far as the diving I have been on the Spiegel and the Duane before, but on OC and also when the Spiegel was still on her side. Diving them now on CCR was like a whole new experience having all the time in the world to explore. The Benwood was new to me and although shallow was really an amazing example of how silent we are to the marine life on CCR. As you can see in some of the photos you can creep right up into schools of fish that barely acknowledge you; or in this case up close and personal for minutes on end with an octopus that is just impossible when you're blowing bubbles.

Another great trip to Florida and diving with some old and new SCRUBs - hope to be diving with you all again soon! Below are a few of my shots and you can see all of them from the trip here: Zenfolio | John C's images | Key Largo, Florida SCRUBs rebreather weekend - January 2008

I would appreciate it if everyone that was on the trip would PM me with your evaluation of 1) this operator and 2) the boat. Please do not air this information publicly.

If you have any comments or suggestions about either topic, please include. For example: How well did their bench seats and tank racks hold your CCR? How was the ladder? How about the platform? Consider things such as these matters in your evaluations.

This will help us in rating so that other divers coming to the area can know something about a boat and operator in making their selection. Thanks for your participation.

Oh yeah, there's one more picture that I forgot to post. Steve was probably hoping that it would stay forgotten , but for those of us on Silent World IV just remember - what happens on the Spiegel Grove stays on the Spiegel Grove ...
