Possible Navy MK-15 Rebreather scam

Has anyone had a look at US ebay.com and seen the above Rebreather auction listing. This has the now familiar odor of a rotting carcass.

Re: Possible Navy MK-15 Rebreather scam

I placed a "buy it now" bid on a Mark V helium hat. The auction was a fraud but I knew that-I had the hat in my possession. I contacted E-bay, they did nothing, I got a negative from the seller for not completing the auction-my first ever, I couldn't be prouder.

Re: Possible Navy MK-15 Rebreather scam

The ebay penalty to avoid at all costs while jousting with the scammers by putting in bids of $1.5m on their fraudulent auctions is the mediaeval and oppressive non-payment strike, which renders the recalcitrant buyer a pariah in the eyes of the ebay hierarchy, pretty much like a "stroke" in the WKPP and GUE subculture. Getting rid of one of those is arguably more difficult than expunging a criminal record for child-molesting. Get three of those buggers and you might as well kiss your ebay career goodbye!

Re: Possible Navy MK-15 Rebreather scam

In a similar situation I only had to send an email to the ebay spoof/frud folks that included the emails form the fraudlent seller and the reversed all negative feedback and nonpaying bidder stuff. Make sure you turn full headers on when you foward the emails to ebay. Admittadly it took them about two weeks to fix the issue but I only had to ask once.

Yes, I probably should not make too many of those 1.5 million bids, but so far Ebay hasn't penalized me. HOWEVER, I not only send the headers to the ebay security department but I send them logs from my webserver after I hit the scammer with an HTML beacon embedded in an e-mail that appears (at least to cash-hungry criminals) to come from Western Union, eg with a subject such as YOU HAVE CASH WAITING FOR YOU AT THE NEAREST WESTERN UNION OFFICE!. Most (but not all) scammers fall for it because they think that the MCN number is in a graphic that they need to download to see. Its only a blank gif file served from my web server that in turn gives me the scammer's IP address.

Probably not worth a lot even if fraud takes place, but I get a kick when the hit is from an IP address of an Internet cafe in Budapest, etc.

Listing Removed by Thursday 01/19/07.

Damn I thought I had an unused MK-15 for $1,000.

Jim

************************

I am new to this group but have been following the for sale scam messages.

Perhaps I missed it but
I haven't seen the recent (01/18/06) ebay MK-15 posting mentioned: #
290073131175 eBay: Navy MK-15 REBREATHER SCUBA DIVING BRAND NEW (item 290073131175 end time Jan-20-07 04:58:04 PST)

Offers to sell immediately for $1,000
Posted by a user dinosaurworld a member of ebay since october 2006

I have to believe this is a scum scammer. Unit is listed as NEW.

I emailed and asked if I could pay for and pick up the unit at the same time. I wonder if I will get an answer.

Cheers

Jim
