![]() ![]() ![]() | rebreather VIn numbers just saw the thread about the big heist in the uk. then saw the latest in this forum and an idea came to me. why dont rebreathers have a VIN number? in the US auto industry cars each receive a 17 digit alpha numeric that identifies the car and is used to track its ownership. it primary use is for anti theft. perhaps we need them for Rebreather's?? |

Unfortunately, however, that number is stamped on the INSIDE of the canister where it can't be seen easily, and the canister can be easily replaced by a thief because it is not the high value-added part of the system. What would be ideal is a security system like the VR3 has, embedded into the electronics. However, this thread does remind me to keep a record of the serial number for my Meg: the more people that do that the harder it would be for thieves to sell their loot.my Meg is 00000356 also the number of my favorite Porsche |

I know that the inspirtation / evolution both have serial numbers that are stamped on the lid and if you have the vision electronics, it's also embedded in the electronics.why dont rebreathers have a VIN number? in the US auto industry cars each receive a 17 digit alpha numeric that identifies the car and is used to track its ownership. it primary use is for anti theft. perhaps we need them for Rebreather's?? |

APD seams much more willing to be part of the solution. When I bought mine they contacted the registerd seller for me to confirm that I was buying the unit from him. Of course my observations are based on a sample size of 2 I would rather that ebay recognise that there is a problem and put some controls in place. Somehow I don't think ebay autos has as much shinanigans going on.

As I recall that was more about disputed ownership than an outright robbery. stollen (sic) might be too strong a word![]()
