another e bay scam
eBay.co.uk: Scuba Diving Equipment - Drager Dolphin Rebreather (item 190120376496 end time 13-Jun-07 14:55:56 BST)

i asked him a question about why it's a private auction.
this is his reply.

EBay suggested that I should use a private auction in order to avoid some of those scamers on the internet . I am at my first sale so I am being very carefull as I don't want to get ripped off . Shipping to UK would be about 130USD but we can make it 50/50 if this would be a problem and I can also send it to you as a gift so you wont have to pay any aditional taxes at the border . If you are really interested in purchasing my item and if you are willing to make me an offer i am sure that we can work something out before the auction ends . Please mail me and let me know your decision and your best price .

i have also asked him to send further pictures of the unit with a copy of a latest newspaper included in the picture,

It may or may not be a scam. The whole private listing issue has become more common due to "second chance" scams. The masked bidder ID is automatic now if the reserve is set over $200 and maybe under a few other conditions but I just skimmed the notice on that so don't quote me.
