Re: Paypal Experiences

Scott, one more tangent. To get insurance that truly covers what you ship, you may need to pay the shipping company like Fed Ex to package it with their own boxes and all. Some companies will sell you insurance on the package but when something gets busted they bring up the fact that they can not insure the packaging job if they did not do it themselves. Just know what you are getting when you pay for insurance.

Thanks all. The buyer is going to do a bank transfer as it works out better for him as well. Just need to get a hold of my bank now and figure out what I need to send him to get it done.

Canadian banks are probably similar to US banks.

All I need to do is give these info:
  • ABA number (routing number)
  • Account number
  • Name on account
  • Bank name
  • Bank address
International banks also use IBAN number, but I didn't find it necessary when transferring into my US bank (i.e. Bank of America).

I called this morning and got everything squared away. I don't need a ABA # if I'm getting the funds transfered directly to Canada but everything else is the same.

Phil,

I wish everyone think the way you do, but they don't.

In the past, I have advertised some second-hand units on Rebreather World. And to be honest, I have been on the "Internet Market" a lot longer than Scott has close to 10 years now buying, selling and trading dive gears some valued past US$10,000 mostly to people I have never met. So one would think that I am "more well known" and less risky person to deal with.

When I bought the Meg package a few months ago, the seller trusted me as much as shipping the package to me before getting any payment.

Yet a few people were afraid to transfer the money into my US bank account, and backed out of a couple of transactions after we have "shook hands".

So it doesn't work as said sometimes...

Like the old saying "trust but verify" That's a trusting soul to ship before payment WOW!!

Sometimes buyers get "buyers remorse" and back out of a deal, nothing to with the actual physical dynamics of a transaction.I imagine it might be too the "other half" finding out about rebreathers, dive gear, etc. and putting a quick end to such ideas.

I wouldn't imagine sending my baby off without payment first. Most buyers have good intentions but I'd rather not have a bad (expensive) experience.

Ron (the seller) knew that I know that he would hunt me down like a dog if I didn't pay him...

I guess so, but he did mention that he couldn't bring himself to make the transfer for fear of losing the money. Can't blame him since he doesn't know me...

Is there a difference between sending the unit or money first ? They worth exactly the same...

I guess in my experiences buying and selling that's the way its always gone down. Besides the money is being sent to my bank account which I've have for the last 20 years so the buyer purchase is safe. It wouldn't take long for him to track me down if I was a dead beat seller.
