Re: My bad news for the year

While I was watching football this weekend, my wife and I got into a
conversation about life and death, and the need for living wills.

During the course of the conversation, I told her that I never wanted to
exist in a vegetative state, dependent on some machine and taking fluids from a
bottle.
She got up, unplugged the TV and threw out all my beer.
Sometimes it's tough being married to a smartass.

Monday go in for the MRI, I will fill you in on the news.

Must remember that one.

Good luck. I hope the MRI is useful. But I'm guessing they're going to need a tissue diagnosis.

Fingers are crossed, anyway. Let us know.

biopsy was a option that was discussed but they have a top doc here at UNMC that does a lot of this kind of stuff and the MRI should suffice unless he finds any thing thats more questionable, that would warrant that. looking forward to the to squeezing in the MRI tube ,

"Are you claustrophobic Mr Beal ? "
hmmm, How small is it , I'm 6'2 and 250. can't be any smaller then a Mobile mono chamber

I'm feeling rather confident about it being benign after talking with some of the DOCs on the Rebreather World and a few of my customers. Seems every one points out the damage in the joint that is causing the pain and says I should be prepared for a hip replacement , sooner then later and remove the threat of possible fracture and relieve the arthritic issues. Only one DR made a statement about osteonecosis and a rather weak reference to my diving practices, He is not a diver.

The good news is this is unlikely diving related.

The appearance of lysis and the disorganized periosteum is reason for a biopsy.

Best of luck big guy, and let us know asap about what they find. Are you sure you will have to have a hip replacement? That will mean you will be out of the water for a bit ..... yikes. my prayers are with you. Get better

Familiar story. I have a T4-5 facet joint injury, suffered in dec 04. The first specialist i saw (after seeing 3 gp's who all said "take some anti-inflams rest for a few days, then go back to work") poked and prodded, asked all the usual questions, then asked my work history. As soon as I mentioned the word "dive" his eyes *****ed up, asked my diving history, and when my last dives were. It just so happened that I'd done a weekend of deepish cave diving (6 dives between 35-60meters) over 2nd-4th Dec. I did the injury on dec 19th. I was seeing this specialist in early feb.

His response as I told him about my last dives "I believe you have the bends".

It took me a good half hour to convince this ****** that I knew a LOT about diving, and a fair bit about diving medicine, and that NO, I wasn't bent. Even then, he still mentioned in his report to works insurer that he believed my diving history was the main cause of my injury...

Mind you, this was also the ****er that told me I would be permanently in a wheelchair within 6 months... Needless to say, my back is still screwed, but I'm still walking, and I got a few more opinions.

Billy, all the best with it mate, make sure you speak to plenty of docs, one of them has to get it right!

Re: My bad news for the year

ok, so the MRI machine is pretty small ,shit its really small

After the first 40 minutes they slide the table out and give me a shot. for the contrasting IMAGES ? I get done just in time to make my next appointment seems I have a large lump 6cm by Cm next to my spine between my shoulder blades they found during a exam of the spine that they wanted to do a biopsy or remove it and the doc says this is not a lypoma and he needs to get a look at it better ,( WTF, I am falling apart) I run back to radiology and get a ultra sound , turns out its not a lypoma but a phys-form / lined within the muscle???. they say "lets go with a muscle knot for now your as tight as a frogs ass" and they script PT for 2weeks and some robo something , 750 mg (west ward 292) on the tab
what the hell is that Mel and Does it work well with Rum ?
I know its a muscle relaxer.
If It is not resolved with in the 2 weeks we will make a new plan. More waiting ,

Friday I meet with the Doc to go over the MRI. I'm not sure if its the stress of the unknown but my hips ache more and getting weakness in my quads and hamstrings.

Moral of the story is, STAY away from the hospital and suck it up

Here is another funny thing that makes me laugh , they take your blood pressure when you go in and say , " hey your blood pressure is a bit elevated" . Really, no shit I wonder why.

Hi Billy,

Do you have earlier x-rays of your proximal femur ? Even from your youth ?

Re: My bad news for the year

No, I have had the same GP all my life with exception to military service. He says there are no records that would indicate a injury or trauma to the left femur. We tried to correlate something but could only come up with the infamous gladiator fight (summer of 82) a baseball game gone bad with my brothers with fence posts and baseball bats in which I only suffered from a few broken metacarpals and cracked ribs. I could have taken a blow to the femur then.

I was a victorious , older brother suffered a concussion from a swift blow to the forehead that stopped the battle. Still to this day all he says he recalls isme saying "No, your out"
