Interesting comments from those who saw the 3rd degree burns on divers in the 1970s, that the diver did not realise they were cooking. They too had means to turn the system off. When the fire starts it burns the nerves, so the diver does not feel it after that.

Fair chance you will feel it as it slowly burns down to full thickness depth. But I guess if you were cold enough to start with you could get a bad burn. Certainly no problem disconnecting the Typhoon if you DO detect a problem.

Depsite your concerns there are plenty of divers using thermal suits very successfully. Look at Richard Lundgren with his Narvik wreck diving, the EKKP also I believe. Lots of divers around Australia in cold water caves. Next week 3 of us will be trying some Typhoons in 7 degress water for 4-6 hour dives. I'll let you know how many skin grafts I end up with.

Your sample is way too short to expect grafts, but one thing I would point out, when these things go, they GO. If you keep the pad inside dry, you should be fine. Also fresh water is much safer than sea water with these things.

Ah there are no secrets anymore! The internet has made the world a very small place Jerome!

Hopefully we will find the hole at 130m that carries on in the Pearse...all that water must be coming from somewhere.

Rick Stanton and Dave Apperley will probably have already scooped the cave by the time I get there!
