Problem with nose - medical advice required.

I have had a problem with my nose recently on a couple of dives. It is a bit of a hard one to explain but it's like a popping at the back of my throat/nose and is very annoying.

It seams like pressure is been released and gas is coming out of my nose, this is obviously a problem on the unit as it's eating up my dill.

I have tried having my mask tighter and slacker to stop it and tried running lungs minimal and well filled but that has not seemed to make a difference, once it starts I can't stop it.

It seems to start about 55-60 minutes into a dive and could have been a real problem recently after we were a bit greedy on a dive and spent 65 minutes at 45 meters, after about 60 minutes the problem started and I started to go through dill very quickly and the finished the deco with about 30 bar left.

It didn't help once I got into the shallows, the problem still persisted.

If anyone has any idea what could be causing it that would be good, I'm going to contact my local diving doctor and see if he has any idea but any input would be good.

I'm no doctor. So, I don't know what I am talking about.

Did you see the posts a couple of months back about people describing a snoring type event on CCR? Maybe check this information out, and bring it to the attention of your doctor to see if this adds anything to the medical picture.

Do make sure you see a doctor that is very familiar with diving related issues. Hmmm. Pretty soon, there might even be a CCR medical sub-specialty as we learn some of the unique issues relating to CCR diving?

Snoring! That seems like it, I have looked through the archives but could not find anything, does anyone have the link?

Luckily we have a diving doctor in our club so I'll have a word with him.

I have had the same problem in the past. It was when I was diving the dolphin and later on the sport kiss and seemed to occur after long dives or when WOB was high as in when swimming inverted. I have not noticed it in quite some time so either I learned to ignore it or my switch to a meg Rebreather made the problem dissappear.

That stuff is far more common then many realize.

It happens to me on occassion, also near the end of longer dives....and it has to do with the sinuses under pressure moving mucus around in the passageways. Sometimes I go to inhale and some of the inhalation pressure causes my nose to involuntarily draw in gas from my mask, so I have to exhale a tad through my nose, only to have it sometiems undone in the next few breaths.......makes for some nice swollen eyelids now and then.....

You might try a decongestant (under physicians recommendation of course for those slimey lawyers why say I must say so).
