They normally knock you out - IMHO, I would give it at least 24+ hours to clear the drugs out of your system. At least ask what drugs were administered to see if there are known issues and check with DAN. There are some BP medications which are known to increase the risk of deco illness.Gabe Last edited by DwayneJ; 7th February 2013 at 22:05.. |

| Re: diving after routine colonoscopy Half life of Propofol is usually 2-24 hrs, depending on how long you were under. For a routine colonoscopy I'd say the 2hrs are about right. So if you want to go diving within 24 hrs you should be ok, unless you took other meds. Dive safe, Celia |

| Re: diving after routine colonoscopy I don't think the anesthetic is an issue 24 hrs post administration (I am an anesthesiologist). But things to consider: You had a bowel prep and are usually 2-4 liters behind fluids (i.e. a little dehydrated). I don't know how much IV fluids you have gotten during the procedure to offset the dehydration, but try to rehydrate 1-2 liters. There is gas insufflation in your colon during the procedure. Unless you get that insufflated gas out, you may experiencing "gas pains". I mention this because "pain" post-dive causes a knee-jerk reaction in some and they call it DCS. Lastly, see how you feel before you dive! If you feel great, go for it. Have a great one!! Claudia |

Curious and thanks! |

| Re: diving after routine colonoscopy Gabe - If you're really committed to dive the next day, ask your doc to do a barium enema instead. No sedation for that. Fun, fun, fun...... ![]() |
