![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | In Victoria there is a shore dive called Willis Point. There is a deep wall just a few feet from shore. I used to dive it with double steel tanks then hump those puppies up the hill to my car. Now I am less likely to have a heart attack with my rebreather since it weighs about 30lbs less than my steel tanks ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The other issue is whether or not the people really did have heart attacks. The term means different things to different people. What we are talking about are real heart attacks, (myocardial infarctions (MI)as the cognoscenti call them) caused by blockages in the coronary arteries. The media (particularly) often translate cardiac arrest as heart attack and, of course, cardiac arrest just means dead from whatever cause - drowning especially in the diving context. Whilst older divers will have a higher incidence of MI than younger divers the incidence in people aged 40-60 is really not that high at all and I would be surprised if there were many Rebreather deaths genuinely due to MI's Just as an observation, when I was training (in the early to mid 90's) we used to see about 150-200 MI's a year through my place and that number has dropped to about 30-50 now.
