It doesn't necessarily have to form in tissues that are at venous PO2, although probably not much difference at very high PO2s anyway. Fair comment but I still reckon that to get PO2(tissue) high enough to make bubbles you'd have to get PO2(brain) high enough to make you fit. Maybe you could do it if you breathed OC 100% O2 at 2.8ATM in a dry chamber long enough to denitrogenate and then rapidly decompressed but I don't see it happening in water.Anyone out there dive with goats? (not talking about that sort of thing Chriso so no need to fill us in on the details).

I guess an altitude dive would be a bit more likely to do it with sub-toxic PO2s (hence my experiment suggestion) - suspect you need some pretty high lakes though (rapid ascent in the andes anyone?). More likely is that O2 in supersaturated tissue would contribute to bubble growth in a bubble that is mainly inert gas in the real world.Anyone out there dive with goats? (not talking about that sort of thing Chriso so no need to fill us in on the details).
