Re: Buhlmann vs. RGBM

Sorry for the misunderstanding. The HS Explorer runs Bruce's 1st version RGBM code. The X1 will run a true VPM with variations switchable on the fly.

I haven't spoken with Kees for a while. He was planning on writing a program for the X1 using GAP (RGBM) software the last time we spoke (a few months ago). It's my understanding that it can be done.

I emailed Eric Fattah at Liquivision, and he told me that Bruce Weinke has declined to allow RGBM to run on the X1, much to everyone's disappointment.

The X1 release is planned for mid to late April.

The amount of computation requirement between RGBM and VPM are supposedly similar, so we'll see...

That doesn't compute. Kees licenses RGBM for GAP, and AFAIK, he can't use it outside of GAP. Kees will clear it up...

Probably has to do with licensing fee and/or computing requirements...

It would be nice if that happens, but personally, I won't hold my breath...

Just telling you all the info I get.... I'm looking forward to the X1, but did you notice I didn't specify a year? lol

Sure, I understand that we are just discussing...

FWIW, I want to be as optimistic about the X1 as well, and have contacted Eric in the past. However, looking at the past delivery history of different computers, I have my doubts which I hope will be wrong in April.

Maybe the problem is that we keep contacting Eric and other manufacturers which adds at least a year on the expected date! lol. I know Eric has test units out there already, and he's sounding pretty confident. I just asked him to put me on the list.... Anyone want to buy an HS Explorer???? ;-)

Nah, that can't be the problem since he hasn't answered the email I sent almost 2 weeks ago...

at the moment this is a point of contention between Bruce and Kees.. The "license" agreement that kees signed had no such limitations (it has to be the worse "licensing" agreement I have ever heard - I have had NDAs that were more clearly written) although bruce feels it does.. There is also an email that was sent to kees by Bruce several years ago that contradicts bruce's current sentiments..

I guess we will see what happens soon enough.. Kees is being too nice... I know I would have been in court already...

Sounds bad Joe. Any idea how much better/worse BW's relationship is with HE? When might we be able to get an RGBM air/nitrox dil code update for the HE? I've got the NAUI air dil tables, guess I'll have to seetle for the conservative HE Buhlman fix for now...

Not sure how the relationship is, bruce didnt give HE the 2nd generation code til 2006! I did speak to Gene about his license agreement and he said his specifically is only for a commercial dive meter..

Gene is working on converting the code.. Its alot of work, but I think it will be done..
