Which Bailout strategy.

Dear all,

As per the other thread and the suggestion from Mart - what is your bailout strategy and why?

The answers above were limited to 100 characters but I think I have covered the options.

I do realise that your bailout choice will vary depending on dive profile / depth etc, but could you go for your typical deco dive and then perhaps explain your rational in your reply.

Cheers

Stuart

Hi,

For my own dives or when teaching CCR courses, I operate in team bailout mode and my buddy and I carry enough bailout between us (with a safety margin).

Obviously, when solo diving, I carry everything with me. For cave diving or ocean/wreck diving, I carry enough OC gas to safely reach the surface with all my deco done. For deep Trimix dives, that could mean a lot of gas, and I definitely consider a bail-out rebreather as a reasonable option, but so far no model on the market really matches my needs.

Cheers

At least enough bailout with me to carry out a reduced deco profile down to 100/100GF plus a drop tank.

On a good day I should be able to add a fair bit of padding to my plan as its bassed on a SAC 50% above my normal deco breathing rate.

Working on the theory that a full loop flood should happen early in the dive (fingers crossed)......

I carry enough bailout to go firstly SCR, then OC ascent or return to staged cylinders on the shot, then drop tank.

It is physically impossible for me to carry enough bailout to ascend and do all my deco obligations on OC.

A fact I accepted years ago.

Cheers,

Dave Cooper.

I carry enough bailout for my full deco for now. Eventually, I'll be doing dives that require team or staged deco tanks, but I'm not up to this stage yet,

Thanks,
Robert

He's talking about his Spare Air on a 10m deep dive.

Back on topic, I dive my EDO in a couple of different configs, depending on the dive. Basically, on anything below 30m, or with signifigant deco, I dive with a stage of bottom mix plugged in, and save the backgas for wing inflation and OC bailout (thanks to my KISS DSV ) On a total loop failure, I will have full twin 7's to get me to my gas switch.

On shallower stuff, I just dive with both backgas cylinders plugged in. In the event of a total loop failure, right at the end of the dive, I would still have OC available from what is left in the twin 7's, which will be more than enough to get me out safely.

Cheers
