Get bored on deco?

Does anyone have experience with the head phones with cold water hoods and diving? Is the volume loud enough for the diver to hear with a hood on? will it drive your buddy nuts

Ron does not clip the headphones to the mask band, but slides them under the strap (strap and hood keeps them in place) and postions them over his temples.(not so loud this way) Yes, if you are close to him you can hear the music, but it still is nice to be able to hear something during deco. Deco is the only time I have seen or heard him use it. I would probably object if it were during the dive, I like to dive in silence.
So I guess that would be another issue, make sure your dive buddies all agree on the music for deco haha

Well, I tried.

Several emails, but they won't budge and ship outside US and Canada. Their European sites don't seem to carry anything and the US site won't ship via these either.

Guess I either take a holiday in the US, or make one!

(I think the biggest problem in making one would be the headphones. The rest would be easy. Anyone know where they sell them please?)

Thanks for the heads up- just bought one. Should be a fun toy.

For those who feel the need for more capacity: on the same close out site they also sell 200 ft pods w/ the in line amp for the iFP-700 series for $30. There is also a close out bundle on the iFP-795 (512 mb) and a SHALLOW water housing (10 ft) for $100. That would make a $130 deal for 512 mb player, 2 sets of UW phones, one amplified dive housing, and one splash proof housing.

For the truly parsimonious at heart, there are factory refurbished iFP795’s on ebay buy it now for $44 that would fit the $30 housing. There’s also an iFP-799 (1 GB) model out there that would fit if you can find one.

I have actually had mine to 290fsw(rated to 200), forgot it was in my spare mask pocket, nary a scratch, I later used it during a 270fsw dive and it worked fine, could still change tracks and volume, speakers worked fine. I do mostly use it for deco, cause I get bored hanging, during the dive I am much more engaged with the dive, my camera, and sea life. I could pull a DrMike and get lost on my deco stops

Personally I prefer to listen to santana, the bee gees and clips from Monty Python during hangs. You do have to make sure its turned down for the last 10 foot of ascent, as the volume triples in the last 10 feet, that little 9 volt battery powered amp really kicks it out.

Thats interesting- I guess I'll find out when mine turns up, I suppose it because of the pressure on the speakers limiting their movement, or because of our ears?

I would have thought Monty Pyton was a bad idea- It'll make me laugh and flood my mask continually

Well mine just showed up, only 2 days after I placed the order. Works fine, although I could have used it under water last night. Oh well I'll try it monday.

one thing i noticed some of the US NAVY guys doing with AHEM...coms underwater was make 3 large pinholes in the hoody
