Nick, have you run some plans to see the difference 10/50 to 10/90 makes.
Try it for 20 mins at 100m it is worth considering. (I wouldn't use 10/50 for 100m just an example)

Also apart from Dr J there aren't that many people diving heliox to tell us what and how they are doing it let alone reliable upto date info on it.

Some people not so concerned about counter diffusion isses use a flush as a safety margin more than gaining some time.

Re: Change of diluent?

Run some plans to check the specific details and get a feel for it but the general overview is:

If you do a depish longish dive with a decent amount of He (10/70) then flushing with a gas that is higher in O2 and N2 and lower in He (20/30) will give a decompression time advantage (according to the deco program).

Doing the flushing but not using the extra time gained is considered a "safety advantage"

If the flush saves you 10mins but you stay for the full time (as if you hadn't flushed) then you are getting an extra 10mins of deco which is considered to be advantageous (to some).

On my V-Planner if i change dill, it hammers my deco. It treats it as another mini-dive if you like. Anyway i'll have a fiddle.
What program do you use?

Re: Change of diluent?

Hi Nick, Vplanner is good for me. You need to add it as a flush.
I don't have the program here with me but I think if you add it at the dpeth you want to flush at say 50m, for a time period of " - " then you will see the difference.

As I said I don't have it here, but I do have a plan:
120m for 20mins on 8/75
as apposed to
120m for 20mins on 8/75 with a flush of 31/40 at 30m should save between 10 and 20mins if I recall correctly.
VPMBE +4 SP 1.3

hope that helps.
