Within the 9-year timeframe, I was diving water temperature ranging from 5C to 30C (41-86F). Last 5 years, mostly in 21C (70F) on bottom and 28C (80F) on deco in the Summer, and 19C (66F) to 25C (77F) in Winter.Age from mid-30's to mid-40's. Shape-wise, not a marathon runner but not a fat bastard either. The only exercise I do regularly is squash a couple times a week, and hauling dive gear... ![]() |

| Going Down? ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: setting pri and sec handsets differently??? Is it really ? I have to agree with ScubaDadMiami on this one as far as 10/100 being considered agressive. I was using it for several dives and got a niggle in my left knee each and every dive. I was also overly tired from an relatively easy dive. Since dropping the upper GF, my niggle has gone away and I am not soooo tired afterwards. Here is an anecdotal comment... I have been diving with GF since almost day 1 when it was introduced (i.e. 9 years ?) and have always use 10/100, except for the first year at 20/100. The diving in the last 5 years have been 90% decompression, minimum 70m (shallowest wreck available) to maximum 120m with long'ish bottom time (i.e. not 1 sec at max depth, but typical of 35-45 mins at 72m). Never a niggle, never feel sleepy or tired afterward (because I have to drive 3 hours to go home after the dive). I am in decent shape for being 46 and not overweight at all (most people call me skinny). I have been diving in warm South Florida waters with max depths of 143ft and max run times of 2 1/2 hr. It may just be differences in divers, but I won't use 10/100 as my primary deco anymore. I still use it for emergency contingincies though, since I know that it doesn't bend me worse than just knee niggles.

You are diving the Optima, thus using HH deco computation. This might not be applicable any longer since it has been years, but the last stop computation was too short when I crash-tested it years ago. I reported it to Kevin, but never got any confirmation that it was acknowledge or fixed. So no idea what is the status of the current system. I doubt that you are "niggled" from a true 10/100 algorithm since (based on what I read from your dive reports that) your max depth is considerably shallower. Again, other simple factors could come in: PFO, correct ascend rate, hydration, warm retaintion, etc... |

Not remaining warm may have had something to do with it initially, but I have since moved to a drysuit. Perhaps the Hammerhead profile is not a true 10/100, I don't know about that though. I have never been niggled until this Rebreather with the HammerHead. I just know that it went away when I adjusted the conservatisim to be less conservative. This might not be applicable any longer since it has been years, but the last stop computation was too short when I crash-tested it years ago. If you use a GF low that is very low or even 10, it is not really a problem since the algorithm will account for these stops and construct an ascent accordingly. However, getting out of the water after a challenging dive with a GF high of 100 would be where you would be taking on the biggest risk. If you raise the GF low somewhat, and lower the GF high, this provides a pretty good all around profile for a lot of diving ranges and conditions without undue added risk while maintaining reasonable ascent times. |
