Sounds like a crap day out! same here. If the currents are bad ill set up my jon line deeper where its easy to do then move it up with me as i ascend. I found a double ended jon line (clips on both chest d rings) is far more comfortable. my reasoning also on long hangs is if i do tox im not going to fall off the line and sink (not much point having a ffm if you tox then sink)I always carry a Jon line now after a similar dive in similar currents last year. I decided that I always need the use of at least one hand to be able to take appropriate actions. Cheers Rich

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Not a good dive hey dr mike, here in the ne us we use 'jon lines' all the time. we tie a loop in each end, we pass the end through one of the loops so the jon line locks into the up line, then we put the clip on the other loop and then to a d ring. this way if you have an issue you dont sink too far past where you had a problem and hopefully someone else doing deco sees you. it kind of resembles a prusik knot if you can visualize it. take care |

I "prusik" the middle of this around the shot and hold it or clip it on. The bungee absorbs any wave action and makes for a more comfortable deco. HTH

I have similar two bungee loops a short one with a SS ring which goes to my 'scooter' ring on my crotch strap about a foot long. then another loop with a bolt snap about 3 foot long works a treat.I "prusik" the middle of this around the shot and hold it or clip it on. The bungee absorbs any wave action and makes for a more comfortable deco. HTH maybe we sould have another thread on this?

| CK 69+Shearwater Pursuit Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Jon lines from Not a good dive The term Jon Line was first used after a diver named Jon Hulburt, who, while doing a dive on the Andrea Doria discovered that decompression hangs in rough water or in a current were made much easier with the use of a short line. This Jon Line is about seven to 15 feet long with a spliced loop at each end. Thank god for google ![]() |
