Converting Bauer Capitano to single phase electric.

I am converting my diesel Bauer Capitano to single phase electric.
All things considered, it is pointing me towards a 3kw (4HP) 2 pole foot mounted motor with cap start-cap run.
This is an expensive conversion. Any advise from those who have converted a similar size pump would be appreciated.

Brent.

P.S., yes, I am as tight as a camel's arse in a sand storm.

Re: Converting Bauer Capitano to single phase electric.

I converted my Coltri Sub MCH 6/SH and put a clarke motor on it from Machine Mart

http://www.machinemart.co.uk/product.asp?p=010210259

It was expensive I could not find a large single phase on ebay you can always get cheap 3 phase motors on ebay, I did think of getting a phase convertor but could not find one cheap enough.

One thing to remember is the compressor will pump a lot slower with a smaller HP motor is now about 65lm when it was 100lm

Thumbs up Re: Converting Bauer Capitano to single phase electric.

HI
big single phase motors are quite hard too find now..
they were available up to 10 hp ..
phase convertors are not suitable for high initial loads like compressors..
i have a single 5 hp on my dunlop...it runs ok , but the motor is bigger than the compressor,,the single phase motor i have was an original 440v single phase ..re-wound to 230v.......it is well up to the job...it as no modern equivalent.......
you occasionally see them for sale on e-bay
i have a simple rule for things like this ...If you can lift it, it's not man enough fot the job..................martyn

Hmm, unfortunately, the Bauer Capitano is closer to the Coltri MCH13.
How do you find that motor on your 3.5cfm?

You might consider a variable frequency inverter and drive a 3 phase motor.

Some VF drives have a single phase input and true three phase output. They aren't cheap, but 3ph motors are.

This is not a "rotophase" or capacitor bank. Check Ebay etc.

Couple cautions: The VF drives can't produce more voltage output than input, so if you want to drive a 240 volt motor at name plate rpm you need 240 volt AC input.

Using a VF drive is usually cheaper than phase converters from an install point of view becasue it can be directly mounted to and wired to the driven device, unlike the rotophase and phase a matic approach which can involve multiple disconnects to meet code.

Good luck,

Tobin

Noise and vibration.
The motor has just been reconditioned, A Lombardini diesel but I like the convienience of not pissing off the neighbours.

Ah OK on our petrol one we have a 3 metre long 'exhast pipe' no sure if something like that would help. You can here my baby booster over the top of it outside the garage.
