Yep, mine's about the same. When I first experienced it I assumed it was because of some rather low pressures (~1100psi) in the source tank and the drive gas tank but have since experienced it with tanks in the 2400psi range.

Yes, the boost efficiency (drive gas:boost gas consumption) is a lot better with higher O2 source pressure. The lower the inlet pressure, the longer and more drive gas used.

most problems (and you notice them imediately when you boost helium stead of ox) come from small (even unviseble) dirt on and under the one-way valves

open the unit (3 bolts) and clean up the discs an assemble again: most of the cases works perfect (unless the piston is stuck:-)
