Compressor explosion

Hi Rebreather World

A compressor exploded in Norway during continious blending. Lucky guy to be alive I think.....
Here is fast translated text (by google with minnor corrections):

Nitroxkompressor exploded in Norway
From Dykking - Norway

Monday evening exploded a six months old petrol compressor during filling of nitrox through a continuous blending system.
Stig Nordeide from Austevoll, certified nitroxdykker, had started to fill nitrox, when he discovered that oxygentank emptied faster than normal, but was unable to respond before the compressor exploded.
It is not yet known whether the explosion eas caused because the compressor has been given too much oxygen, but it is established that it was filterhuset who exploded.

"I was leaning over the compressor, to empty a filter, when the roaring sound accourd," says Nordeide to Dykking.
"It was violent and I was thrown away. It was a totally surreal experience and very frightening. When I came to myself, I was concerned about my condition and what happened to my face. Fortunately it looked worse than it actually was. My eyes was hit with fragments, but no permanent damage" says a relieved Nordeide.

Initially, it was reported that it was a bottle that had exploded, but as soon as Stig Nordeide were given the opportunity, he contacted Dykking and had the the misunderstanding corrected.

Re: Compressor explosion

Its ok though, everyone says continuous blending with a standard compressor is perfectly safe and requires no modifications.

They used to say it in french too

Yep, it also happened on a boat I was diving from once - not quite as bad as that but it wasn't pretty.
