Wael This is a good start, just remember when using a booster, bigger on the compressor is better. Unless you want to wait all day to boost. Paul |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Drive gas compressor advice needed My setup for small homeboosting: Booster: HII-5G-SS-30-OT, ie. singelstage booster with 30:1 ratio. This means any standard 8bar shop-pressure is enough, as I can get 240bar boost-pressure. Added one ballvalve at driveas-input to control flow-rate and boost-speed. Allso added one at output to control return-stroke allthough that doesnt really work very well. Used std. cheap air-QC with an adapter, from SCUBA LPI to air-fitting so I can still use drivegas from a scuba-tank if needed on a trip. I'm limited to 230VAC single-phase, so for my first setup, wich has not yet run for real, I used a cheap 2-stage Seltra (Harald-Nyborg) with theoretical rating of 385 l/min, and real-world rating of 320 l/min. Test-boost seems to run fine, allthough lights dim somewhat when it kicks in. I adjusted the cut-off pressure to nearly 9bars wich is where the OPV activates. Only thing is that the hysterese of cut-in to cut-out is 2 bars, wich is annoying, it does start until below 7bar, wich means that the booster could stall at 210bars endpressure. Its going to be nice when it runs. Nicolai

![]() ![]() | Re: Drive gas compressor advice needed Hi Brian, I found on my Haskel that you really need at a minimum a 2HP compressor with a minimum 50lt cylinder. On my compressor i can adjust the cut off. You will also need to replace the standard regulator that comes with the compressor and fit a ball valve and filter along with high flow fittings on the hose. You want to allow for high flow rate which the ball valve allows. I found working pressure was important, but not as important as a allowing for a high flow rate. Cheers John

| Totally Submerged Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Drive gas compressor advice needed Hi, Really thanks guys for the info I really appreciate it. I try to ask as much as possible about something new in order to make sure that I'm doing things right from the beginning. Just wondering what kind of regulator I would need to change on the compressor in order to be able to connect it to the booster? Best Regards. Wael

![]() ![]() | Re: Drive gas compressor advice needed Remove the regulator completely. As in do not use one at all. Have a strait bit of pipe running out from compressor to ball valve to filter. You then control flow rate via the ball valve. This way you are getting maximum flow without any restrictions. So remember, use large high flow fittings where ever possible. Cheers John

| give a man an inch....... ![]() ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Drive gas compressor advice needed Outlaw Divers, Photos - Ancillary Equipment - Booster Set up that's the drive system I have for mine allows filter compressor air and MP air from SCUBA cylinder without changing anything. The compressor struggles a bit to keep up especially at higher pressures.

![]() | Re: Drive gas compressor advice needed We dont use a 2nd compressor at all. I placed a regulator at the manifold from our breathing air compressor (before the filters) that splits our breathing to our three respective air banks and regulated the manifolds HP down to the 160 PSI the haskel requires. I then control the flow with a ball valve at the haskel. |
