ultrasonic cleaning fluid

Hi all

Im looking for input on what people are using for their solution in ultrasonic cleaners. I have been told to use diluted vinegar, citric acid and others.

Are there better options out there? And where can they be got. What temp do you use.
Thanks
Tony

Re: ultrasonic cleaning fluid

Just did a DIL first stage last week; used a 50/50 distilled white vinegar / water solution in the ultrasonic bath. Gave every thing a good scrubbing in a solution of Simple Green first...

Re: ultrasonic cleaning fluid

For straight forward cleaning I use water with a few ml of house hold ammonia. For O2 cleaning I use water and simple green cleaning solution.

Re: ultrasonic cleaning fluid

The process I use that I find gives me great results: wash first in a small bath of simple green (to get all the heavy crud off to not dirty up ultra sonic so fast). The ultra sonic has distilled vinager (filled 3/4 of the way) then water to the edge mark, then a dash of simple green. Then I'll rinse with a diluted bath of simple green again to get anything left behind and finally with a clean water bath. Either let dry or use air to blow dry. I find this leaves the parts squeeky cleen with absolutely no residue of any kind.. May seem a bit redundant but don't forget, just because you pull the parts out of the cleaner depending what you have cleaned previously. There may be a slight film of -whatever- floating on the surface. So as you pull your clean parts out you are bringing them right through the surface slime. Thats why I do the two rinses.

Re: ultrasonic cleaning fluid

I clean everything with 50/50 vinegar and warm water to get the muck off (toothbrush if needed). Then in bath with either simple green solution or blue gold. Rinse and let dry.

Re: ultrasonic cleaning fluid

We use two ultrasonic cleaners and then two rinse baths.

1st unit gets water and vinegar solution. Approx 4 oz of the vinegar to the quart of water.

2nd unit is a heated unit. It gets water and crystal simple green. 1 part CSG - 500 parts water.

3rd bath is bottled water (we get 5 gallon containers)
4th bath is bottled water (again)

On strongly corroded items we will increase the vinegar to as much as 50/50. On seriously corroded items we will do a presoak in On/Off MaryKate Hull and Deck Cleaners, On & Off, Cleaning Detail, Super Suds Boat Soap, Mildew Stain Remover, Inflatable Boat Cleaner, available at Ward Marine this is a solution of phosphoric acid with a biodegradeable cleaner. We call it "phoz". If this is used the item then gets a water soak first -- then steps 1-4 .........

Cheers
