Just got my Haskel Mini Sport Booster

Just received my Haskel Mini Booster from Coltri America's in FL. Plumbed it all up and ran it this weekend. Sweet piece of equipment.

I was impressed with how quietly it runs. Using Scuba tanks for drive gas for now. Looking into a shop compressor at some point.

None of the fittings on the booster are 1/4" NPT, which all my fittings are, so I needed to put the adapters on the unit to convert it. Using swagelok quick connects on all the hoses, except for the drive gas...Using standard 1/4" NPT quick connects from Lowes for that.

Had the Teflon lined SS braided hoses made up at the local Industrial Supply Company for less than $4.00 a foot. Got some Tee's & added O2 gauges to each side for $15.00 ea. Put the matching swagelok fittings on the hoses and booster and she's good to go. Fittings were the most expensive part of the hook-up... They ran about $130.00. The stock low pressure air hoses only seem to come in 50' or 25' lengths. I got the 25', but it's a bit too long. I guess I can get a shorter custom hose made up at some point.

I'm using a standard Mares first stage plumbed with a 3'8" to 1/4" NPT adapter for the drive gas regulator and the standard 1/4" NPT Quick Connects for the LP air Hose.

I dropped the IP to 135 and the Booster seems to run better than at the 150 it was set at. I have a ball valve installed in the low pressure (Drive Gas Port) port to regulate the volume of air coming off the scuba tank. At full flow the Over Pressure Valve of the booster keeps blowing off so I needed to be able to scale that back a bit. Also added a button pressure relief valve to the Mares regulator.

It seems to pump at about 7 cycles per minute and fills at a very reasonable rate.

Thanks to Ted Green for all his help in getting this plumbed properly.

Richie

Re: Just got my Haskel Mini Sport Booster

Hi there Richie,

thanks for the report! I have this HII booster sitting around doing nothing as I cant get adaptors for it. I could make them on the lathe, but dont have the right size jaws for small stuff. Did you by any chance run across a good source for adaptors on your quest?

The HII uses female 9/16-18tpi SAE input and output and 1/4"NTP female for the drive gas. I already have the standard 1/4" NTP FM SS hoses with 1/4NTP male to DIN males. Here is what I would need:
2 pcs. Male 9/16"-18tpi SAE to female DIN adapters.
1 pcs. Male 1/4" NPT to standard BC inflator nipple, or to female 3/8-UNF, (which accepts the nipple).

Whith this config. I figure I can just take the panel DIN, pop it in to the booster, or bring a standard DIN to DIN whip for filling off a twin set when on CCR jungle holiday.

Cheers,

Andy

Re: Just got my Haskel Mini Sport Booster

Andy,

Swagelok makes the adapters that you can use on the HII pump I recently switched to a rightangled adapter which makes travelling with the pump better and I got rid of a few QC's. The actual hose fitting is a flare fitting this makes it easier to use different adapters and you can get the hoses to lay just right.

As I mentioned before we are in the midst of relocating to Spain so if you can't source your adapters I will have them available by the end of July.

Hi,

Just get a haskel too,

I found all the connect stuff at swagelok to connect at a fill whip Golem gear.

All seems ok, but just wonder if you use as scuba tank for air, an oxy clean tank and first stage or normal tank and first stage no oxy clean ? Do you put some filter between the first stage and the HII ?

Thank's

the O2 comes straight from a 50L J with out regulation other than a needle if needed and goes straight into an O2 clean destination tank.
The drive is coming from a standard scuba tank via a reg set at 10 bar IP. I might also ad a crude ball valve to regulate flow if needed. No filter. The scuba air is filtered from the compressor and should be good enogh to drive if good enogh to breathe! Am I missing something?

Re: Just got my Haskel Mini Sport Booster

Thanks, I doubt swagelock would have any DIN female adapters and they take forever to work with. I have an account with their Thai distributor and they are taking months to get stuff from.
The angled approach makes sense, but to get FM DIN adapters angled might be a bit too much to hope for.

Why are you moving your shop to Spain BTW?

Andy,

Swagelok makes adapters which you can use to convert the in/out port on the HII pump to either 1/4" male or female NPT. Using the DIN fittings on the pump is going to make it very cumbersome and a minor pita to ass/disassemble. That is why I also opted to skip the QC's on the pump I leave the hoses permanently attached with a QC on the end of the donor hose to allow for quick connections depending on the bottle you use, on the out side I have a male din fitting with a PG, and if I should need to fill yoke it's a simple din to yoke adapter.

I'm moving the business to Spain on the Costa del Sol because:

a) 320 days of sunshine every year and the ability to dive every day.
b) Nobody is supporting breathers on the coast or tech diving
c) Virgin wrecks and walls completely untouched
d) If your SO doesn't dive there are plenty of other things to do to keep them happy
e) Accomodations range from camping to cheap Pensions to 5 star hotels so we will be able to put packages together for any budget.
f) Insurance and manufacturing costs are insane in the US

I could keep on going but I will be making an announcement once I am set up which hopefully will get everybody interested, and oh yes, I'm getting divorced so I'm grabbing what belongings I can and looking forward to a fresh start doing what I love to do

Re: Just got my Haskel Mini Sport Booster

Right when I was thinking of moving TO the states!

I have the diving right outside. Wrecks, caves whatever. palmtrees waving over my factory. The whole set up. However, if I need a drill bit I have to order from the US or UK. They do have tooling here, but the local guys just takes forever to deal with. The amount I spend on UPS shipping per year could easily pay a few holidays back for diving etc.

Thanks for the swagelock tips. I was thinking with DIN FMs I would just pop in the standard whips from the panel. DIN is a quite easy disconnect btw.

Cheers and good luck with the move. I hear Menorca's got some really good wreck sites. Good vis, but no fish. The tourists ate 'em all!

I can tell you Menorca is a real good and beautiful place as for diving than for living. Small island and the best of baleares. Many caves too. And lot of fun ...
