Question Newbie compressor and booster question...

I've got an old Bauer Purus petrol-engined compressor. I've also got a maximator gas booster.

So far, have only played with the (excellent) booster a couple of times, using air from a cylinder; and enough to know that the thing uses tons of drive gas for the HP stuff.

So, enter the compressor. Unused (by me), sitting in the shed, new oil but a filter probably not much younger than me.

Question: Is there any reason why poorly-filtered gas can't be used to drive the booster please? (I can't see why not, but then I know jack...)

Re: Newbie compressor and booster question...

With some boosters there is an at least theoretical risk of contamination of boosted gas with drive gas, so for boosting O2 particularly you want clean drive gas. I don't know about the maximator specifically. Jetsam advise that the drive air for their baby booster should be of breathing quality. I understand that some seals on the drive cylinder may also not like moisture which could be present in poorly filtered air.

Unhappy Re: Newbie compressor and booster question...

Thanks. Sounds like I need a separate filter.

Although...I wonder how loud the bang would be if I used what's left in my J of O2 as a drive gas?

If I lend you a kevlar helmet and flak jacket, can I come and watch?

Lend me your booster as well and you have a deal.

Just heard from the distributer that the drive piston on my model is separate - so I can use the compressor. I like the idea of using up the O2 though...

Re: Newbie compressor and booster question...

Alternatively, you could have bought the DTB5C gas booster from Divetech.
This pump has been designed with a double vented interspace between the air motor and the piston. Due to the design of the airmotor, air is only supplied to the top of the drive piston. The piston is returned by a spring and the incoming gas pressure, which also makes it very economical on air ( 3:1 ). We supply all the fittings needed for you to run the booster from any low pressure compressor as standard. Why not take a look at

http://www.gasbooster.co.uk/DTB5C.ht

The new fully anodised model is available from 1st June.

Shoehorn that plug in there!

I could have. Still waiting for a response to my email though. Nice looking kit by the way.

I was quoted £1360 (including all hoses, adapters and next day delivery)

I'd be interested to hear of anyone who's got one of these and how it is to live with?

My LDS has the bigger electric version and its very good from what I've seen.

Anyone got a DTB5C and a camera fancy doing an article? I'll do it if someone want to loan me one to test (for the summer )
