| 07971475781 Current Rebreather/s: | 21 February 2005 BOC Diving Gas makes divers’ safety a priority BOC is set to make a splash in the recreational diving market in a bid to improve safety standards for British divers, it announced today (21 February 2005). The gases company, the largest in the UK, will now be supplying diving grade oxygen to fill sub-aqua oxygen enriched air (Nitrox) cylinders to support the 300+ dive centres and dive clubs, nationally from March. Diving grade helium can also be supplied to specialist centres and clubs which choose to provide Trimix blends (blends of helium with oxygen enriched air). But the new service will ensure that only outlets with blending certificates will be able to use BOC gases. It also means cylinder filling takes place in dive centres or in clubs where investment has been made in appropriate, permanent filling rigs rather than in garages or in peoples homes. Stuart Askew, of BOC, said “The recreational diving market is very safety conscious and in recent years has made good progress regarding cylinder and gas safety. BOC’s Diving Gas service will assist in moving safety along even further.” “Recreational divers should obtain their fills from qualified individuals, using suitable filling equipment, into appropriately checked and validated cylinders. Dive centres and clubs are most appropriately positioned to provide this and that is why we have chosen to take these measures and to only supply the trade.” Divers could be putting themselves at risk by blending their own gases unsupervised, without the appropriate level of experience, competence or equipment. Says Andrew. “Amateurs dealing with gas blending and large highly pressurised cylinders, in their homes or garages, risk serious injuries not just from inappropriate mixing but from inappropriate cylinder handling and storage. “To make diving as safe as possible, we are only supplying dive grade gases directly to those clubs and dive stores which can prove they have the appropriate diving gas blending certification. “This will enable greater levels of product safety and protection for divers all over the country.” BOC Diving grade oxygen is supplied in a unique 250bar / 50 litre supply cylinder, which is the longest lasting on the market. These cylinders enable customers to have more fills and fewer cylinder changeovers. Cylinders can be delivered to the club or shop door, or can be collected from a network of local BOC outlets by arrangement. Clubs and dive shops with blending certificates can find out more by calling BOC on tel. 0800 02 800 |
