Preparing a compressor for shipment

Due to relocation our Colrisub MCH6 is about to get put in a container for 2 maybe 3 months.

Is there any preparation that would be worth doing prior to shipment?

Re: Preparing a compressor for shipment

I know how harrowing relocation can be, so if you really want to do the right thing you could put it in a crate and send it up to me in Beijing. Seems a shame to take it back to the UK where there is a dive shop and compressor in every town.....

Great idea let me think about that for um... not long at all. Due to having a lot of DOT spec cylinders I dont think I will be very popular in dive shops.

I have a Bauer Jr-2 which is similar in size to yours, and it has been moved around 3 continents in the last 8 years.

And (knock on wood), I didn't do anything to prepare for the move. Not even a crate.

I just drained the air, wrapped the cord and have the packers put it inside a carton box.

Hi Gibbon,

I would remove the Compressor Block oil and engine oil if petrol/diesel driven and label the compressor "No Oil".

I would remove the Pressure Gauge fitting from the condensate tower and pack it in bubble wrap along with the two drain plugs and the filling whip and pack them with the manual and usage/service history on top of the Compressor block and pack the lot into a box or crate for protection.

Regards

Ditto what Beanie said- Probably more divers per person than any other country and without fail everyone lives at lest 30miles from the nearest shop with a compressor...

One of the things we do with the MCH6s after testing and before shipping (that can be weeks to months) is to run them and drain all condensate from the towers. Then, pour about a cap full of oil into the inlet (of course you have to remove the filter) and run for only 10 seconds. That puts a light film of oil on the top end of the rings and keeps corrosion to a minimum.

Then, as already noted, drain the oil, pack the gauge with bubble wrap and remove the hose.
