In fact your ears and nose are growing until your dying day which apart from no longer being exposed to the clip in a regular fashion may explain for your sore nose...

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: The DSSCCD Very nice article, Aaron. I am also one of the lucky people who managed to acquire one of these. I also have the technical maintenance manual, and it's possible that pages from this could accidently fall face-down onto my scanner The RN divers loved it. Very robust, compact and good to dive in the water. The only downsides were (and are) its limited scrubber duration and the HP bypass valve which can get knocked sending HP gas directly into the counterlung. Considering how old it is, it's an amazingly versatile design. Andy |

My nose only looks bigger as the photos were taken with a wide angled lens and the FF mask is rounded at the side Regards Aaron. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: The DSSCCD Aaron. Think twice about lending the unit out unless you have a box load of spiders for the mask. They will pull the tab off first time!!! I would make a copy of the strap in rubber to be on the safe side. Best not to use the lead balls either again if someone were to "drop" them you cant get replacements. The Admiralty pattern Wrap around mask is also a bugger cracking the face plate glue if left in the sun and rotting of the water filling spigot. First (and last time) I lent out one of mine was to Rob Palmer for a history of diving video. First time I knew something was wrong was watching the rough video of him going arse over tit over rocks into the water. As I said 1st and last. Is there any collective advise on rubber protection on this forum I have been using "Armor All" seems to be OK but would like better info. Iain Middlebrook |

![]() ![]() | Re: The DSSCCD Aaron!! VERY NICE ARTICLE!! i love those CDBA's and someday hope to own one. instead of the original round lead weights, have you considered getting a mold for 1lb cannonball fishing weights, and making them without the wire eye? that could help prevent the originals being "lost". you may well be able to find the cannonball lead weight molds in larger sizes if you needed to. just an idea. Is there any collective advise on rubber protection on this forum I have been using "Armor All" seems to be OK but would like better info. Iain Middlebrook Iain you may want to look into what the vintage scuba divers do with their double hose regulators, and the duckbills in then in particular to preserve them inbetween use. the duckbills were notorious from my LIMITED understanding, for getting gummy and going to $h!t. also if someone has any info on care and maintainance of the old vintage frogman drysuits, that may of of help. some links that may be of use for you: Vintage Scuba Supply.. they have a great forum and alot of helpful people, IIRC there is even an old PJ on there with ALOT of realworld experience. Vintage Scuba Supply - Antique Diving Gear Two Hose Regulators Vintage Double Hose.... there are some very helpful and knowledgable people on this forum. in particular i would direct you twords BroxtonChuck. very nice man, and quite helpful. there is another on there that is incredibly knowledgeable, one of the first LA County Instructors IIRC, but damned if i can remember his name. this is going to p!$$ me off until i remember it. anyhows.. like i said some good knowledgable members. Vintage Double Hose Replica Drysuit.. maker of replica vintage latex rubber drysuits... the owner, i believe is William Sewell, is also a rebreather diver, and has a very nice homebuilt ARO-57 clone. he has some videos that can be downloaded as well. quite a nice guy when i emailed him for information on his suits. his o2 rigs are listed on JWB's site under the NL_ Database Oxygen Rebreather section. he may be of some help. Vintage Style Molded Latex Rubber Dry Suits Available from Customworks hope this is of some help to you. Yankee Rebel |

That combined with the pendulum mechanism must have been a huge CO2 headache producer. Does it come with analgesic tabs? You are right on one point here - I used the CDBA / DSSCCD for about 5 years, in the early to mid 80s- CO2 headaches were a common occurence, depending on the level of exertion produced during the dive. The long shallow swims in oxygen rebreather mode were quite often the producers of "head pain". Andre |
