TR300sc (Dolphin like Rebreather)

Hi,

after making the TR300 (now are 15 Rigs in use) I was just playing around in designing a small an lightweight rebreather.

For me some points are important in the design:
  • Liteweight
  • easy to maintain (assemble / disassemble)
  • good working watertrap
  • KISS Style oxygen support
  • cheap
  • transportable (speziell for Holidayflights)

My first prototype is now ready (pictures follow)
It looks like a Dolphin, but is half of weight.

the outer frame can (in future) be folded together so the hole rebreather should fit a small handbag.

the scrubber holds 1.0 kg sodalime

I just thinking in going to manufakture the rig

therefore I just looking for some parts. perhaps the community has some ideas

Holger

Re: Dolphin like Rebreather

Oh, thats so anticlimactic.

Main Entry: an·ti·cli·max
Pronunciation: -'klI-"maks
Function: noun
1 : the usually sudden transition in discourse from a significant idea to a trivial or ludicrous idea; also : an instance of this transition
2 : an event (as at the end of a series) that is strikingly less important than what has preceded it

lets see the goods !!!!

Hi Holger,
Looks interesting!
What is the counterlung produced from? Is this a commercially available bellows?

Re: Dolphin like Rebreather

Hi,

now I have some pictures.

be aware it is just a prototype and the finish will change

at the moment the housing is made from steel. the counterlungs are from MSR (6 Liter, because I need the length) and Ortlieb (4 Liter).

The scrubber is vertikal between the both counterlung. the exhale counterlung is connected at the bottom of the scrubber. there is also a Overpressure / dumpvalve (it should be possible to drain some water).

The scrubber is 25cm in hight and has a inner diameter of 9cm. All connectors are at the moment P-Plugs.

TR300sc open all assembled together.

TR300sc inhale side (top) the bypass is missing

TR300sc exhale side (bottom) with the overpressure valve.

TR300sc top with breathing hose connected (bypass still missing :-) )

TR300sc with two 2 liter cylindes connected.

TR300sc complet with closed housing.

enjoy

I`am now looking for someone who can me help with the counterlungs. It will be better when I can get some who are fits better. I know this is very difficult, because no facturing will produce just a couple of them.

for the housing I will do this in kevlar.

the scrubber parts are ready for a cnc drilling mashine.

Hello,
Looks nice. A couple of questions. Is it easy enough putting P-Ports into the MSR lid? And where did you get the box from?
Cheers

Hi Dave,

yes it is easy to put p-conns in the bags. but the surface of the bags are rough so you have to put some silicon or aquasure first for watertight.

the bos is made from my facturer who does most of my material.

Re: Dolphin like Rebreather

Very interesting design, Holger!

I was looking at your pictures and I was puzzled a bit by the exhalation CL. It looks like it connects to the bottom of the stack. Should it not be more practical to swap around the CLs? Having the exhalation CL connect to the highest point would allow for water to enter the bag but not travel into the scrubber column.

What is your reasoning behind the CL connection being the way it is now?

Thx,
George

Hi George,

my idea was, that the water can fall down the exhal CL and should be then be purged out of the system by using the overpressure valve. so theoretical the water should be not reach the scrubber.

In praxis this works, but my exhal CL was not long enough to hold a small amount of water before I can go in upright pos. and be ready to purge. will be changed with the next version when I have other Counterlungs.
