Its not my unit m8 so i just chucked it on jumped in and thought, wow this is nice. As a result i have no comparison data for a rEvo without a top bar.

It even had an additional 3ltr on one side. I jumped in and spent a moment sorting out buoyancy because i lost the wing inflate, then I went to fin off and it just kind of clicked perfectly into place. If felt compact and lite and very comfortable. I have not had this feeling with any other CCR i have tried.

Re: Which rebreather has best trim

I just throw the units on and go diving

Dont find it hard to get reasonable trim on any unit Ive dived

I suggest keeping close to min loop vol will make maintaining good trim easier

as for the comment about boris trim: Its easy to find pics of people diving any unit with crap trim - doesnt prove anything. Dive the unit yourself and see. I find boris no harder than my inspo or my MK15.5 to trim out. I dont have a silly foam base, or trim weights - dont need anything, just dive min loop and use a good wing (with ass lift, thin top)

for me it wasn't so easy to get the good trim .
it not difficult to add some more weight at the top if you get enough space to make the attachements.

in addition i think that the weigth must not be added but transfered at the top of the rebreather otherwise you will increase the total weigth of the rebreather.

Lastly it is better imho to be able to drop this weigth in the water in case of necessity .

I don't know the boris or the mk15.5 so I can't comment their trim, all I can say is that if I had to design a rebreather I would be attentive the those trim problems.

regards

jean mi

Re: Which rebreather has best trim

Hi
One friend of mine was diving a Submatix and now a Meg. Always with a CCR35 wing from Halcyon. Perfect trim.
I thing that the wing help a lot.
My two cents.

Re: Which rebreather has best trim

I am currently toying with 2 ideas to improve my overall in water feel good factor on my inspo.

1. I am looking at back mounting the lungs. - clear chest + remove the instability of having bouyancy below and wieght above.

2. I am looking at putting my 7 ltr (1x50% and 1 x dil) with the valve facing upwards and then mounting the O2 cylinder on the side. - ie trimming much more like the old OC days when trim really was never an issue. (+ no need for side slungs)

I currently use a DT box - however I am tempted to

Has anyone else tried this combination.

I use same old dive rite rec wing. I got my maid to undo the stitching at the top part of the wing and restitch it smaller, rolling up the liner inide. The top is maybe 2 inches now.

Re: Which rebreather has best trim

Hi
I'm using BMCL in my inspi for the last year or so.
It will gives you a very good improve in your trim. Absolutely.
I'm using the original box (still) and the original 22 litres wing and i've a good trim.
Anyway, looking to try the CCR35 wing in the inspo.

Best
Mikel

Re: Which rebreather has best trim

Hi!
The problem I belive with most rebreathers is that you have lots of air at the top, in the head, and in the breathing hoses and most people have the heavy valves and regulators facing down. This is not going to help you trim.
I have turned the tank valves up on the rebreathers I have owned and that make a world of difference. Try it! Im sure you will like it.
Of course the diver play a major role but some units are not built with trim in mind, that is pretty obvious. Im sure you can arch your back, move around trim weights and opt for different wings to get it right though.
But Im sure glad I dont need to do that.
Here is 2 small clips of what we did yesterday during a friends CCR course.
The second clip is the good old "touch the knife handle with your nose" boyancy game. CCR style.........
No trim weights or other modifications used or needed what so ever.
It is his second dive ever on a rebreather.
Not bad for a newbie huh?

Dive safe!

Cheers
Roger

Re: Which rebreather has best trim

Hi

That is me in Roger's video clips.

It's only my second ever rebreather dive, I've not dived SCR or CCR before, so I can't really compare with other units.

But what I can say is that as soon as I got in the pool with the Pelagian I went straight into trim and felt very comfortable. I was expecting it to be a nightmare as everyone had told me that rebreathers were hard work. But it just felt natural, like having small twins on your back.

So I'm well happy and just don't ask me to change depth!! Thank fully Roger didn't video that.

Cheers

Mike
