![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | KISS-KA-BOB!!! My new bail out rebreather design! Ok...before anyone gets too critical about design or depth limits on this thing, let me say that this took about 2 hours to put together. It uses only standard parts from the Sport Kiss. The most difficult part was rotating one of the canister/pod connections 90 degrees so that everything would easily slide into the case. When the unit is not in use, the canister slides all the way down so that the pods and electronics are protected. All that sticks out the top is the BOV. This allows for a couple of open circuit breaths right away, while you undo a single clip to allow the unit to slide up into diving position, which also clears room for the counterlungs. In the video, I have a 13 cubic foot tank and a 6 cubic foot tank. I have since changed to use only 6cf tanks, and the unit is very small. You could also plumb in offboard gas easily by running a hose from the 1st stages. I have had it to 110 feet with this configuration, and it worked perfectly. It doesn't breathe that well if you are not in a horizontal position...but so what? You could either side-mount the unit, or butt-mount (which would take longer to get to). It takes about 2 seconds to deploy the unit for full use. Anyway, here are some videos. They are short and of very poor quality, but they will give you the idea. I hope you like them. Aloha, Charlie

The SK has been much deeper than recommended depths and it is rumoured that not extending recommended depth to full normoxic range is a commercial decission more than anything else. When in doubt you could still use it SCR at depth and CCR once you go up or have to work less hard. I just wonder if you need to have the black case at all. In a normal diving position your body and a simple strap should be able to restrain the lungs. I'm curious now and will try in the swimming pool ... It reminds me of the original Jetsam canvas? soft case idea but now turned into a front mount device.

I've certainly had my SK deeper than its rating, and for a bailout, you would not be at depth for very long at all. I like the case because it keeps everything well protected. I don't think a canvas or soft case would be any smaller. When in doubt you could still use it SCR at depth and CCR once you go up or have to work less hard. The case is still full depth (where the restraining plate is situated)) but anyway consider yourself greened for the unusual thinking....

Actually...when it is stowed (like in the first video), there is almost no room at the bottom where the counterlungs are scrunched up. They only have enough room to breathe when you pull the canister up into the normal position. Thanks for the green ![]()

How long does it take you to un-BOB it, assuming you would do that? Now all we need to see is you diving it with your Mk 15.5 on, too,

I use the little plastic clip and strap system to keep it secured down, then when I slide it up, I just unclip, pull upwards, and resecure the clip. The clip works in both positions because when it is down there is more stuff (electronics, hoses, etc.) shoved into the box.How do you fix the canister in the lower and upper positions?
