Cost of new unit

I've been looking through various CCR vendors. but they seem anxious to mention prices of their goodies.

so I'm curious, what did your rebreather cost you when you bought it new (and what year was that)?

Re: Cost of new unit

I think you'll find that the prices are like cars, there is a base price, then you have lots of options. This makes it difficult to answer the question "How much?" If you look at the Jetcam site, they have a web page listing the options and the cost of each. Again, no secret, it's just not a cut and dry question.

For example, here is the pricing on a Classic Kiss

I agree that APD are a little 'secretive', but that's down to how they work with the Instructors who sell their units.

Anyway, the Inspiration Vision was 4,695 base. Goodies brought that to about 5,500 IIRC. That was in November 2006.

What seem to be valid prices are at APD Inspiration Price List

Cheers,

I know it wasn't what you asked but- Please remember the "Cost" of entering Rebreather ownership isn't limited to the unit.

Unit + Training Course + Training Course Travel/Accomodation/Food + New Spares Kit and Tools + 5days leave + Sofnolime + inevertible accessories

Secondly don't select your Rebreather on Cost alone, choose the unit that will suit your diving, the most expensive unit isn't necessarily the best and the cheapest could be expensive for you to run.

Last of all- If in any doubt Ask the manufacturer, almost all Rebreather companies are pretty good at answering questions (In my experience)

Re: Cost of new unit

Do consider 2nd hand units. I bought my Inspiration Classic in August 2005 for NZ$7000. The unit was in immaculate conditions - 100h or so, it had done approx 120 dives when I bought it. A real bargain, compared to what you have to pay for a new unit. But please do your homework first, and buy a 2nd hand unit only from a respectable source.

Re: Cost of new unit

I know there's more cost than just buying a unit.
Currently I'm happily diving a used Dreager FGT (previously owned by the dutch navy for 20 or so years).
I was first considering buying a russian IDA , start playing with it and maybe convert it to MCCR in a safe way
But knowing my own technical skills I think I'm better off saving up my money and buy a new (or second hand unit).

I'm based in the netherlands, deepest lake is 53 meters, north sea around 30-40 meters. Most diving will be "at home"
but.... I don't want to exclude deeper wrecks in the mediterrean like croatia so it needs to be prepared for that as well.

Goodies like HUD, CO2 tempstick,ADV are more than welcome ofcourse

Re: Cost of new unit

Attached, you will find the current ISC Megalodon price list. It is current as of March 2007. My buddy and I both bought second hand units for a nice discount. His is a full Meg that had been purchased and used for training and then the owner went to med school and sold it for monetary reasons. (hell of a good buy). Mine is a Movie Meg that was used by one of the stunt divers in the movie 'The Cave'. It was only used during the movie and for a very few dives after that. I paid about 50% of a new one configured the same way. (really hell of a good buy)

If you can't find that 'hell of a good buy', then go new. If you are only saving a little, I'd opt for factory new.

Like everyone says though, be prepared for the options list. I don't have any CCR friends that dive a 'base' or 'stock' unit. You are already diving a SCR, so you know the drill on that.

Re: Cost of new unit

Most stateside vendors advertise unit prices right on their homepage. I can't think of one that doesnt.

Here is a link to a thread where someone is selling their Meg - http://www.rebreatherworld.com/rebre...-meg-sale.html

Good luck!
