Me too, but then I discovered that OMS doesn't really make anything (except for their stickers and patches). They buy Halcyon and Dive Rite stuff and peel the labels off. ![]()

I was a little late to the demonstration and there was a crowd gathered, I could see between a couple of shoulders but couldn't get the camera in there. Hoped to get back into the show early on Sunday before the crowd, showed up at the door @ 8:15 but they weren't even letting exhibitors in yet. Then had to go pick up our dogs @ the kennel and by the time I got back to the show there was another crowd. As Dave said, it came across as a work in progress but the bits that were complete seemed to be of really high quality. I can't imagine they'd be ready to get it on the market for a year or more, at least not without significant commitment and investment. |

Many similar "curiousities" but the thing is highly engineered and gets high points for that at least. It's a rugged thing, that's for sure. OMS is going to market, apparently at least. It's a LONG way from being a production rig. But it's heavy duty and that attracted. As for the OMS markins on the one displayed... if I were OMS and was displaying it Id have my logos plastered all over it too. Best, Dave While I agree that OMS' business is primarily in printing catalogs, putting OMS stickers on product and reselling it, this unit is clearly being marketed and sold by OMS regardless of who designs and manufactures it. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: BTS-saw new OMS/Grey Wolf Given that Grey Wolf also had a booth at Beneath The Sea, the notion that they were just using OMS's booth to display it and therefore OMS slapped a few stickers on it (you conveniently didn't mention the casting of the OMS logo onto the top...) seems, well, inaccurate. I definitely got the impression that OMS and Grey Wolf were separate entities and it was Grey Wolf that created the unit. Their booths were next door to each other but Grey Wolf wasn't sharing floor space and they were not coordinated in their approach to marketing (if you can even call it that at this point) the Rebreather. The RB was an ornament in the OMS booth it was the whole tree at Grey Wolf's booth. While I agree that OMS' business is primarily in printing catalogs, putting OMS stickers on product and reselling it, this unit is clearly being marketed and sold by OMS regardless of who designs and manufactures it. I don't know what kind of marketing deal they have and whether it's exclusive or not. Sure the OMS logo is stamped into the head but there's a car with a Pontiac Vibe logo plastered on it but it's a Toyota. The Grey Wolf Rebreather could be the same deal. |

I was impressed. the four sensors, the locking ring holding them in, the covers separating the electronic pods all very nice. The build quality was quite impressive. Did you catch that the electronics area (under the three little cover plates) will be fluid filled with oil so they are waterproof to benthic depths? Nice.... Dave

Sort of like the old US Divers regulators that were all made by Sherwood.... (as were Voit), and the vast majority of BCs being made by Soniform, or all the other diving items: There are are marketing companies in the diving world, and engineering companies, and manufacturing companies. Firms that do all three are scarce. Nobody can claim this as an OMS "Product"... and adding or removing the OMS logo in the head is a matter of changing a few lines of CAD/CAM code. Heck, it could say "Diver Daves Rebreather" in the next manufacturing run.... if I pay a fee. So, is there some *point* to this nitpicking? For a rig at it's current state of design, it is *very* impressive. That's no matter who displayed it in their booth, who designed it, or who built it. Dave

It's all just a market of assembled commercial commodities. How many companies make BC bladders in the world. Three? How many make BC inflators? Three? How many make raw hose? Four? Hose fittings? Four? Hight Pressure gauges? Dunno, but have five different ones here now that ae identical save for the logo.... Labels, on the other hand... well, count the number of "manufacturers"... Back later, have a rig to plumb for a customer. Dave

Were there o-rings (or plans for them) in those plates to seal it against fluid leaking? When he took them out they seemed tight into the recess but, in my recollection, they didn't seem to be sealed at the show. I didn't get a close up look of how the plates fit into the recess though.Nice.... Dave |
