Seems to be a simple little bit of insurance against a worst case HP seat failure. Although, if what everyone is saying about Schrader valves is right, the Eagle likely won't need it. The next experiment to verify the Schrader valves ability to deal with high pressures will be done over the weekend. The results should be in by Monday.Do you have a little Frankenstein's laboratory in your house? Seeing as Dave Sutton owns the copy right to Frankensteins laboratory I can't call it that, but I do have a fairly large and well equiped engineering workshop/laboratory at my disposal in the basement. Not only is it helpful for these homebuild projects, but it also makes my homebuild rebreather friends green with envy![]() ![]() |

(1): This is way off topic, so we can start a thread if you like on "homebuilt" (2): I *think* you'll find that the US Navy figured out the Schraeder Valve mechanics some 30 years ago when they installed it on the Mark-15.... Re-test if you like, but it's a proven point. Dave

That's your view. With all due respect, you have some fences to mend there. And, err..... I've used Schraeders for manual add valves and they work fine. Well balanced at 140 PSIG and still usable at 3000 (and "usable" is all that matters... it's a *reversion* mode, dig?) Mark-15 uses all HP tube so a leaking seat does not cause gas loss. You think a "venting to ocean" gas system is an improvement? Not.... but again, feel free to add an OPV if you prefer to vent rather than save the gas. Costs little. Dave

Only a few days ago I heard about the idea of using high pressure lines instead of OPV valves, and I'm sold on it. Currently I'm using an OPV, but I'm now considering ditching it and replacing all the LP hoses with the HP hoses used on SPG's as well as some swagelok bits and pieces to regulate flow in case of HP seat failure.Dave |

For most of its development it didn't have a backlight, just like the Mk15 analogue secondary. The view was that the backlight would waste too much power on what is essentially your lifeline when everything else turns to shit. After battery life testing, it was found there was TONS on battery life, with plenty to spare, so the backlight was trialed and found to be a valid option. As the standard analogue doesn't have a backlight, it was thought that having it there so a user could turn it on if they thought they might need it was a good addition, but the existing internal button switch was utilised rather than rewoking the housings that had already been manufactured. Soon after this, planning started on an external switch, which I have right here. Fitting it neatly into the existing housing size meant a rework of the circuit board, so it's taken a bit of time. It's expected that the externally switched version will be available before Eagle deliveries start. Cheers, Jason. Permanently on holiday in Australia! |

![]() | Re: Colkan Eagle Hello all, well I am not even sure where I fit in here but as far as BioPaks myself and buddies have worked with them for 3+ years now, both 60s and 240 models. The 240 has proven to be a very stable and easy unit to work with. The 60 has its good and bad, as you all know they are all most the same but the 240 has a bigger scrubber section and lid. I work in the compressed air field and with breathing air products for above water use in new product design. I have been watching this post from day one and just thought it was time to introduce myself. Pictures of biopacks and underwater video at our web sight Ted and Wayne's Scuba Site The web sight needs to be updated badly,we need to get the newer units pictured and will soon. Please give the video some time to load, the files are large and hosted local. Wayne J Last edited by waynej : 24th March 2007 at 18:55. |
