Given the turmoil that has recently rocked this on-line community over our treatment of one another on-line, and Stuart's thoughtful way of handling it, I feel that we have here an opportunity to all learn something. I want to congraulate BAM on his handling of a reply that could have been taken as somewhat insulting. He ignored the insulting bit and replied in a very constructive way and thereby turned the thread back into a positive exchange of views by all concerned. As an infrequent poster, I don't think I can give 'green' to anyone, but someone who can should give BAM a green blob. His on-line behaviour in this instance shows us how to maximize the value of Rebreather World. Thanks, BAM.

Re: Tried Meg, Kiss, Sport Kiss, Inspiration and Evolution. (First Time on Loop)

Greetings, all. I also was there last Sunday and enjoyed the hell out of the day. Would like to thank Curt Bowen, John Conway, John Jones, Jill Heinerth, Jakub, and Doug Ebersole w/Off the Wall Adventures for putting on a nice show. Pretty good bang for the buck--$25 for a look-see at the SK, CK, Inspo, Evo, Optima, & Meg (with a CIS-Lunar canister and neoprene counter lungs no less!); plus Golem Gear’s Greatest Hits, 3 back issues of ADM (plus a year subscription), all the pizza/soda you wanted for lunch and a pool session to boot! I’d encourage anyone to attend one of these if the opportunity arises.

BAM and Jason have already posted their comments, here are mine:
  • Curt started out with an entertaining Rebreather 101 session--funny guy. Doug then went into depth on the Jetsam units. The SK and CK were much smaller than I thought they’d be. Nice and simple, though the SK looks way quicker to tear down and was much lighter. Curt has one and his bottle mix was pretty interesting--which leads one to believe even “sport” rebreathers can be configured for other uses... “Dove” the CK and WOB was hard and I had constant chipmunk cheeks and had to keep venting from my nose to lower loop volume. Not slamming the unit--what does one expect from a “one size fits all” pool session? Pleasantly surprised that the displays were easy to read--was kinda worried about that. The SK is still at the top of my list, even though it was a tough run around the pool.
  • The Inspo and Evo looked complicated and bulky, though well designed. I “dove” the Inspo and loved the way the solenoid kept the ppO2 rock solid. WOB wasn’t too bad either, but this isn’t open circuit, Dorothy. Surprisingly, the unit felt real good in the water, although my buoyancy absolutely sucked--it must have been quite entertaining watch me sink and rise during my couple laps around the deep end. The unit has new respect in my book, glad I got to do a hands-on.
  • The Optima that JP Jones presented is a pretty cool unit. I like the way DR has been constantly tweaking it--shows commitment to making it right; the flexibility of the FX, IMHO, is definitely the way to go. It remains on my short list--kinda bummed John couldn’t do the pool sessions, but vis was good, so no need to chunk things up a bit, if you know what I mean... Kudos to him for hanging tough despite being under the weather...
  • Jill’s Meg presentation was great--she’s been diving these things for a while and had some great war stories. Solid rig, MIL-spec for sure. REALLY liked the neoprene counterlungs--that’s the way to go, IMHO, as long as you are comfortable with Aquaseal, which she was... Would have liked to have done a pool run on the Meg, but the line was too long and I had to get back to momma in Orlando, so I left early.
  • The Golem Gear BOV and radial canister are solid and quality stuff--and I guess Jakub didn’t have an Armadillo to show us, as he can’t make them fast enough, which I guess is a good thing!
A great time was had by all and I’d highly encourage attendance at a rebreather experience, even if you have to fly down and leave the ice storms in Chicago! Glad to have met you guys & gals.
