Sport KISS Build Up

Getting a Sport Kiss ready to dive
By Sue Catita

Here is the stripped Sport KISS

We start with the counterlung case:

We then attach the wing and backplate, being sure to tighten well both screws on top and below.

Time now for filling the scrubber. The Sport KISS’s scrubber uses around 2.3kg of lime. It should almost reach the top of the scrubber, and be very well tapped to avoid channeling. I use either Spherasorb or Sofnolime 797, but prefer the first one.

Then, I insert the caps on the scrubber, turn it upside down, and lubricate the inside part of the counterlungs attachments in the scrubber, as well as the o-rings in the counterlungs.

Then, both counterlungs, by a push and turn system, paying attention to the o-rings.

Now this must go in the counterlung case. Counterlung bottom tips should face the divers back. Just slide the scrubber down the box, assuring that both parts of the top strap in the case are outside. Then, close it, using the buckle. Verify that the buckle is well closed in order to avoid that it might become loose when you jump into the water.

Cylinders and 1st stage regulators should be inserted now. Mounting the cylinders might be tricky. I use to insert first the bottom part of the bracket, then the upper part and finally slide everything down until I hear the “click”. Remember that to release the cylinders, a small button on the bracket needs to be pushed.

We’ll go now for the hose attachments. Remove the scrubber top caps. Again, be sure that the bottom parts of the hose attachments are clean of dust and or sand, a bit of silicone grease, on both sides and push and rotate. Verify that no part of any o-ring stayed outside. If you need a lot of strengh when rotating the pot, probably there is some …

Insert both hose attachments, verify again if there isn’t any part of an o-ring from the outside and then attach the stainless steel safety tether, in order to avoid unexpected rotation of any of the hose attachments.

Almost ready! Now you need to connect the LP hose.

Now the breathing hoses. With the quick disconnect system it’s a simple procedure. Again push and rotate. I usually start with the ones in the mouthpiece.

Then, the other part on the top attachments. Push and rotate, being sure that they are properly inserted.

I’ve connected the VR3 to the third sensor and the Sport KISS is now ready to perform the calibration process and pre-dive tests.
