The K-alibrator
By Jonny Bekkestad
Finally, the K-Alibrator is finished, the long awaited tool for calibrating the Classic KISS with O2.
This tool came about when I started thinking how to save O2 when calibrating the unit on oxygen. I noticed that I was loosing a lot of O2 during this process and I though that the main problem was that I had to flush the system minimum 3 times before reaching an acceptable ppO2.
So I came up with this idea. I have made 2 counterlung plugs, and a much smaller "scrubber". This will minimize the total volume of the whole unit down to the scrubber head and the two hoses, instead of having the counterlungs and the scrubber consuming O2 that I was going to waste anyway.
The test I made today showed me the result I was expecting, during normal calibration I have ended up loosing about 15-20 bars of O2 out of my 3L bottle. Today I calibrated the unit with 65 bars of O2 in the tank and after the calibration; I was not able to say how much O2 in bars I did loose. I believe I would need a digital pressure gauge to show it.
Here are some pictures of the pieces I made.
As you can see on the pictures the left counterlung plug is made smaller than then right one, the reason of this is that the right one is made to fit on the exhalation side and the left one is made to fit the much narrower inhalation side. Now I have noticed that this might not be necessary so the parts that I will offer for sale later will all be of the same size.
Any comments or questions about these items will be answered promptly.
Hope you enjoy this as much as me.
