Mounting a New Regulator onto a KISS BOV
By Alan Lewis
Hi
Like many of you, I mistrusted the paragon reg that came standard with the KISS DSV/BOV. I bought an Oceanic Omega with the eventual plan of changing it out. The omega seemed a good choice, small, fairly bombproof, decent breather, built in swivel, and it could be mounted in either direction.
I bought mine on Ebay, for I believe about $40.
My plans to change had to become a reality when my paragon reg failed on me right before a dive trip. It didn’t seem like it could be fixed, and wasn’t very dependable anyway. I’d noticed while playing with the 2 regs that the paragon fit into the mouthpiece of the omega pretty snugly. Necessity being the mother of invention, I tried it out.
First I cut the mouthpiece off the paragon. Teach it to freeflow on me…
Then I bonded my new ‘adapter’ into the mouthpiece of the omega.
The O-ring seal is maintained this way.
Then the new happy couple is married back together, after a little dremeling of the metal bracket to accommodate the larger regulator.
And the finished product. Now let it be known that I am no machinist of engineer. I better option would be to make an appropriate adapter with a little more length, that would not necessitate sacrificing the paragon, but it is a worthy sacrifice to the gods of unreliable dive and life-support equipment.
