| So if you have new cells to put in do you just open the packet, fit them, calibrate & thats it or do you need to soak them in O2 first ? Never fitted new cells before & had vauge memories of somethimg about soaking them in O2 ? |

Never fitted new cells before & had vauge memories of somethimg about soaking them in O2 ? No need to soak in O2 but you do need to expose them to air for a while, It due to the fact when a cell is in a sealed bag it consumes all the available O2 and goes into a state of hibernation. I don't know your system, if you are using rEvo dreams and the voltage is too low the Dreams will not calibrate. (I think it is 8.5mV) Have you tried swapping cells to see if there is a fault in the wiring? Also, put a voltmeter on the cell to check output. |

| Re: New cells- just put them in or soak in O2 or ??? That's a new one on me! Just insert, calibrate and go diving. That's a new one on me. I've always heard to wait a good 12-24 hours after opening to let them fully activate. If you are swapping out one at a time and have 3-4 cells on an mCCR, then maybe it's not so critical, as you can vote out the new one in your head for a dive or two.g

(I think it is 8.5mV) rEvo dream NG + shearwater controller running on 5 cells , no splitter. Have now tried the cell across all 5 positions & nothing .Have you tried swapping cells to see if there is a fault in the wiring? Also, put a voltmeter on the cell to check output. |

| Re: New cells- just put them in or soak in O2 or ??? I definetly prefer the soaking overnight in 02. Otherwise it seems to take a few dives and recalibrations before things settle down. It can be an especially useful trick when you find yourself having to change all your cells @ once during a dive trip. Last edited by cadblaster3; 13th April 2010 at 17:45.. |

| Re: New cells- just put them in or soak in O2 or ??? I definetly prefer the soaking overnight in 02. I'm surprised. Since they are supposed to be a six second response time I would have thought that by the time they were screwed in they were long since settled.I'd love to have a 'dead from new' cell to bits, not that I've ever had one. However they'd be under warranty and even I wouldn't chop up a cell that would get swapped out for a good one. Frankly I'd expect one of those little fine wires to have come off rather than the chemistry to have gone AWOL. |
