New cell's but are they any better ?

Well, I have fallen in to the trap 3 new R22D’s from https://golemgear.com/ nice service 8 day’s. D 8 and £44.00 each inc P&P at Paypall exchange rate.

The cell’s I have replaced are F5’s so thought I better!

Keep one of the D8 for spare, fit two D8 and one H6 I had as a spare, all read 10 mv in air, a soak in 100% over night. Sunday cell two failure when calibrating won’t make 40 mv. Mad rush to open the other D8 and same story, after the bad batch comments I have all the luck! Turned out to be a crossed wire. Uncrossed the wire and all good, hitting neer 1.6 @ 6mtr and staying in sink nicely all fast to react.
Now I have 7 cell’s open. "Boil in the bag cell check"
Method read the cells out put voltage in 21% and then 100%
For the 100 % test place the three cells are in a small freezer bag and an O2 source, vent and when the cell’s top-out record reading. Recorded on the HH cell read out.
(Boiling water is not required this may do more harm than good).

The results,
Cer no & date
MV in Air
MV in 100%
Age / use
521765 F5
9 mv
45 mv
24 + month.
521766 F5
10 mv
49 mv
16 month.
521767 F5
10 mv
50 mv
16 month
736925 H6
9 mv
46 mv
New
215736 D8
9 mv
44 mv
New
215761 D8
11 mv
52 mv
New
215769 D8
9 mv
48 mv
New

All the cell’s react fast much less than the 6 second stated by manufacture, from max reading to air reading about 3 – 4 sec. Only the oldest over 2 years old was just noticeably slower, that one is going in the bin, although it still puts out as much MV as the new ones. All the F 5 hit 1.55-1.6 @ 6 mtr and have never failed to calibrate and are linear in reaction time.

So question is which ones do I use?

Good writeup, and a good question.

I want my cells to be able to be linear to more than 1.6, preferably to 1.8 or 2.0. However I'm not going to spike the PPO on loop to test this. I therefor follow replacement recommandations as this is one of the safeguards against ceiling-failues. Its not perfect, but it works. SO I replace a cell once in a while - never all 4 at one time. And I replace eventhough they have not failed.

However:
To fully answer your question I would meassure linarity to a PPO of 1.9'ish using a chell-checkker, and would feel fine to use all cells that pass. The answer to your question would then be:
Use any you like, and keep the ones that pass as spares - I'd probably use the older ones first, though - makes sense.

--
So asuming you're not going to test PPO-linarity to significantly higher than they will see during daily use - discard old ones and use new, according to normal replacement policy.

But...

If you test them and they pass even the high range, they are all good to go.
