| CK+Shearwater ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Age of "purchased new" cells? Hi All, (Apologies this debate has been had in various formats previously but my question is hopefully slightly different, if not can somene direct me to the correct thread as I really can't find it) Firstly I'll accept that cells have a shelf life unopened and are then "supposed" to last 12-18months once opened (yeah right!) But how old (since manufacture) is it acceptable for cells to be when they arrive in the post, sold as "new" from the supplier? I have just bought 4x R22-2 BUD cells, date coded E7 (May 2007 I believe?) Its currently April 08 so these cells are a year old.... is that reasonable, usual for "new" cells? I'm afraid to admit I didn't make not of the age of previous cells ![]() Acceptable or should I ask for "new" cells? PS- I'm reluctant to open the bags and check output until I clear this up and yes, I did mail the supplier directly... |

If you don't mind sharing, where did you get them from? I need a couple of spares and won't be in the states again in the near future so would rather not buy them from your source. Drop me a PM if you don't want to post. Cheers Rich

I'd be reluctant to accept anything older than 3 months. I'm happy to tell you where I got mine from (though they are APD cells). FWIW, when I ordered cells from the same place last year, I got them in the same month as they were date coded. I'd send yours back. Means Swanage is an issue - does Peter S have any cells he can lend you? Cheers,

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Age of "purchased new" cells? As you should only use cells for 12 - 18 months from date stamped on cells (i.e. E7) you only have 6 months left on these cells. Given that most cells should only be a few months old when purchased, you should expect at least a year of useful life from new cells (faulty cells accepted) The total life expected on teledyne cells is 36 months from date of manufacture or about 1.5 years of use max..Return them & get newer cells... I have received on mnay occasions cells that were 1 year old when purchased new.. Teledyne used to run large batches of cells and ship them as needed, now they run much smaler batches of cells... The best batch of cells I ever had was from early 2004... I had some unused ones that were ust under 3 years old and tested linear to 2.0 even after that time... I just ended up binning the last of them in january.. the last 3 became limited to just over 1,6 for the worse and 1.7 for the best after about a year of use (and total time just under 4 years old!)
