This contradicts the advise from Martin Parker at APD, take a look at his training video. Cells are one item on a Rebreather that I'd rather not push... guess we'd better ask Alex for his expert advise
It's also pretty clear in the Vision manual (3.5.2 in the version I have).

Cheers,

There is a difference between used and unused cells especially when stored correctly.. Teledyne who manufacturer's the cells specifies it as a 24 month shelf life..

The cells should be regularly tested for response, linearity and output limiting... If you can't or don't know how to evaulate the cells then you shouldn't use them.. I might agree with APs video using BUD cells since they open the cells and I'm not sure if they take the same packaging precautions as Teledyne takes when originally shipping a product.. I don't use AP branded cells for this reason.

Teledyne branded cells have a 24 month warranty..

Re: Age of "purchased new" cells?

Just make sure you date them and keep a log. Seems like common sense, but I have seen many customer's who have no idea when they installed what cell. I have litteraly seen customers walk in with a head, and say they don't know why their handsets wouldn't pass calibration. When I look at the cells, I see date ranges all over the place. When I ask when they were installed, they shrug.

Re: Age of "purchased new" cells?

Funny follow up....

Removed the existing cells from my CK last night, installed by me 18months ago when I purchased the unit, supplied with it as a "new" set, was a shade greener at the time and just put them in without looking.

The (still working) cells coming out are plain R22D's dated F5 (June 2005) So where older when I installed them (November 2006) than the set of R22-2BUD's I'm now stressing over

One could say "Ignorance is bliss" but thats not really the point...

FWIW I emailed/called a couple of other suppliers, for the BUD's no one had anything newer than mine.

Re: Age of "purchased new" cells?

Just seen this thread and it prompted me to check my "new" cells. Bought them in November 07 and they are date stamped H7 (August 07) put them into the unit in Jan 08 so it's easy to remember when to change them again....providing i remember that i changed them in January

Re: Age of "purchased new" cells?

For what it's worth.......I got new cells from Oxycheq in October. When I ordered they were in the process of getting a new batch in and I had to wait about a week to get them. When they arrived my sensors had a production date that was three days old! Can't get any fresher if you grow'em yourself. FD

Get an thin permanent marker and write the install date (I use the same date code as the cells) on the cell. Then you don't need to remember....

Cheers,
