New KISS 2nd stage

Hi All,

I haven't been to the forum since the spring but thought there would be stuff about the Mares Porton xl second stage and adapter Jetsam is selling to be used on the KISS DSV. I have had no end of trouble with the Paragon second stages and am looking forward to the Mares. Mine was shipped and should be here soon.

Does anyone have one yet? Any comments?

I applaud Jetsam for choosing the Mares. In my OC days my Mares regs were bulletproof and got me to 230ft with flawless performance. Their design is simple and elegant like the KISS itself. Maintenance is straight forward and parts are available. In my book this is a home run.

Looks great! It looks like you could upgrade an older unit by replacing the spool guide for the one that works with the Proton. Is that the case?

Yes, it's possible to upgrade by purchasing a new DSV adaptor from Jetsam.

Word is that the upgrade parts for older DSV's is a LONG way off. Shouldn't be the case, but that's what I've heard.

It's looks nice, but so far I haven't had a problem with the Paragon - granted that I've only used at 45m, and that wasn't in anger.

What are the perceived benefits of the mares reg... easier spares perhaps?

It's a venturi reg, like the Dacor Vyper, so it should shove bucket loads of gas down your throat. Most people I talk to have leak problems with the Paragon too.
