I'll believe it when I see it with my own eyes .I spoke to Peter a few months ago & he was still saying that the original version held a neg test ! For some reason he didn't like it when I called him a liar .If he has cured it then good as it was a nice enough BOV except for that

Re: Arrrrrggghhh V4Tec BOV

What grease are you guys using? DSVs like this (with no o-rings) naturaly rely on close fit of barrel to give the seal. This seal is enhanced by grease - but you need to use the thickest grease you can find. My Boris DSV and my MK15 dsv both leak like a sieve unless I periodicaly grease them with some realy thick grease. I note at the factory (boris) they assemble/advise to assemble with grease that is incredibly thick.

I use Loctite superlube. Only use the squeezy tube version as aerosols have propellants in.
This stuff is very thick and very difficult to wipe off. PTFE based. It has a consistency similar to that of a silicone sealant.

yes thats the stuff - sticky as hell - I reckon you could use it to patch holes in Counterlungs

A lot of people use O2 grease which is water thin and a total waste of time in a dsv

How about the properties in cold water, will it get harder to turn the BOV or DSV lever when temperature is approaching the freezing point. Or is the viscosity of the grease not really affected much by temperature?

From the RS website, item number 184-7967.
I've used it on my Bob Howell and on the suicide 'o' ring for years. Never seen it degrade between applications. It's very temperature stable, and water resistant. I swear by it.

Superlube®
  • Multi-purpose synthetic lubricant with PTFE
  • Reduces friction and wear with the added lubricity of PTFE
  • Prevents rust and corrosion
  • Withstands temperatures of -23°C to 176°C continuous
  • Safe on metal, rubber, plastic, wood, leather, fabric & painted surfaces
  • Long lasting, does not melt, dry out, wash out or separate
  • Oil pen & grease USDA H1 listed for incidental food contact in meat & poultry plants.

On a recent dive trip we deco'd out at 6m on pure O2. In order to do this I rotated the V4tec BOV to OC and released the loop. I then breathed off an OC reg on the deco bar.
Imagine my surprice then when I flooded my counterlungs because the V4tec does not isolate between the OC and CC sides of the BOV.
Keep this in mind when you are selecting a BOV!
I'm now looking for a new BOV and a FFM t go with it.
