V4tec BOV and comfort?

Hi,
Does everyone with the V4tec BOV fitted find its ok on the jaw with no ache? We are probably gonna get one, but my wife was wondering if she needed to be like DesperateDan for it to be comfortable?

Nick..

Nick..
I have one and it is comfortable. Though I have not made so many dives with it yet, I think 4-6. The longest has been around 90mins I have had any jaw fatigue.

I moved the hose weights backwards maybe about 5cm and it seems to work.

Nick..

I started using a Golem BOV about a month ago and have about a dozen or more dives on it with the longer ones being 2.5 hours. I can't imagine that there is much difference in weight between it and the Vtec. To this point I have not had any jaw problems or notice it underwater. The only time that I realize the extra weight is as I am getting out of the water after a long dive. (Climbing up the boat ladder) I typically stay on the loop 2-3 minutes after exiting.

Re: V4tec BOV and comfort?

Cheers.
Is the work of breathing pretty much the same on the BOV as it is on the inspo dsv?

Hello!

After some fifteen dives with the v4tec DSV my opinion is that it is comfortable under water where you dont notice that it is a bit larger
than the original DSV.

Above surface you will notice that it is a bit more bulky while prebreathing.

I think that the WOB is as good as the original.

Re: V4tec BOV and comfort?

Did you change the rubber mouthpiece on your v4tec, or do you still have the one it comes with? It uses the Apeks mouthpiece doesn't it? I wasn't keen on this mouthpiece when I tried it on OC.

Re: V4tec BOV and comfort?

I have also the original Apeks mouthpiece on the V4TEC. I guess you can put on what ever you like, they will fit i think.

Re: V4tec BOV and comfort?

This is for those who have a V4TEC BOV...

Eventhough I have received my V4TEC BOV for sometimes now, I only started to work on it today.

The V4TEC BOV is made to use zip ties for connection to the breathing hose, and it would be a fine method. However, if anyone want to use the APD system to secure the hoses instead...
  • You could only use the "back-half" of the APD hose connector (i.e the smaller ring part of the connector which secures the split-adapters that secure the hose in place) since the BOV uses its own main connector (i.e. in place of the larger ring part)
  • Use Dremel tool to cut off the 90-bend part of the split-adapters. Otherwise it will be too thick for the smaller ring part to go over the top.
  • Install the split-adapters over the hose ends as normal, except start from the second groove instead of the first.
  • Install the smaller ring part over the top of split-adapters as normal.
  • Now, you could slide the HUD holder the smaller ring part as normal.
The whole process of cutting to finish took me a whole 2 minutes.

If you ever had to install the APD hose adapters on/off, these steps should be very straight forward...
